NFL Star Kam Chancellor Hosts Annual Memorial Day Cookout Safety to Serve Nearly 1,000 people in Hampton Roads

Norfolk, Va. – May 20, 2013 – As part of the Kam Cares Foundation, Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawks will host the Fourth Annual Seven Cities Family & Friends Memorial Day Cookout on Saturday, May 25 at Lakewood Park in Norfolk, Va. The event – sponsored by Pepsi, Z104 and 95.7 R&B – will foster a sense of community, while providing families across Hampton Roads with a free opportunity to enjoy the holiday and meet some of their favorite NFL players.

This year’s line up includes Chancellor’s teammates, Richard Sherman and , as well as Tyrod Taylor of the Baltimore Ravens and Ryan Williams of the Arizona Cardinals. Senator Kenny Alexander will also attend to greet Chancellor, special guests, and citizens and offer brief remarks. Attendees should expect an impressive presentation of food and great music from local DJs, in addition to moon bounces, face paining, and other children’s activities.

“I look forward to our Memorial Day Cookout every year because it gives me an opportunity to give back to the 757 area, and at the same time, show my appreciation for the community’s support throughout my career,” said Chancellor. “Through this event, we create an atmosphere where families can spend quality time with one another and have good old fashioned fun – without the expense.”

The Family & Friends Memorial Day Cookout is one of several charitable events presented through the Kam Cares Foundation – an organization designed to serve children from single-parent families and lower socio-economic backgrounds in the Hampton Roads and Seattle areas. Before the season kicks off, Chancellor will take his usual front and center role in the foundation’s annual Books to Bikes event, scheduled for mid-July in Norfolk; and Back-to-School Supplies Drive, slated for August – also in Hampton Roads. To add to the grandeur of these events, the foundation will partner with the Union Gospel Mission in Seattle to identify five families that Chancellor will personally take on a shopping trip for clothing, shoes, and school supplies – ensuring they are prepared for the upcoming school year.

“The NFL has given me a platform to affect change in my community, and I truly believe that to whom much is given, much is required,” said Chancellor. “I just want to be an inspiration to younger generations – on and off the field.”

The Seattle Seahawks recently signed Chancellor, their star safety, to a multiyear contract extension worth $35 million over five years. The 2011 Pro Bowler finished last season second on the Seahawks with 101 tackles.
