Biographical Notes:

Samuel Jordan Cabell (December 15, 1756 – August 4, 1818) was a Revolutionary War soldier from Nelson County, Virginia, exiting the war at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was part of the Battle of Saratoga and the . After the war, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates and a member of the Virginia Ratification Convention and voted against the United State Constitution. He and his son, Cabell (August 12, 1799 – June 28, 1838) lived and died in Virginia.

Scope and Content:

This collection consists of copies of materials related to Samuel Jordan Cabell found in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. These papers include copies of military bounty land warrants and scrip issued in 1832 as well as a will and some correspondence. Materials created after Cabell’s death are primarily by his son Patrick Henry Cabell. Because these materials are copies, legibility can be limited.
