While Mr. Skipworth was known for being tough he had a compassionate side as well. The author of this article witnessed his compassion and strength when a child on the 1987 boys basketball team had a seizure during practice. The pre-911 era meant Mr. Skipworth had to hold and care for the child without assistance from medical professionals. The fear and emotion that engulfed the team would also move the seasoned coach to tears.

When Mr. Skipworth was through teaching and caring for kids in the public school system, he focused full-time on taking care of his own family. Before his death, he spent most of his time with his grandson Blake.

“He was so proud of Blake. They had such a special bond. He's looking down with such pride now at both grandsons, Blake and Brady.” Gayle said.

Just like grandfather and father, Blake and Brady can often be found playing either basketball or baseball on any given day.

From athlete to administrator Mr. Skipworth’s lifetime achievements are measurable by the impact he left on Howe and beyond.
