The Wimmera Hearing Society provides free hearing screen- ings to Western Victoria. We will be visiting Robe at the Foreshore car park on Friday November 15th, between 10am-4pm

The society is a non for profit organisation, based in Horsham. We do not sell or sign people up for any further testing or hearing aids. Our service provides each person with the results of their hearing screening and any further recommendations that we feel are required. Any refer- ral will be to your own Doctor.

We have been providing this service to the Wimmera and Western Victoria for 30 years. All staff have been trained in audiology and coun- selling.

Our services offers residents of small communities the opportunity to have their hearing checked with a pure tone hearing screening, recom- mendations can include, referral to Doctor, for further investigation. Communication strategies, to assist persons that have a minor hearing loss. Minor repairs to hearing aids along with education about wearing hearing aids. SPORTS NEWS Robe Bowls Report

The Robe Bowling Club held their Ladies Invitation Day on a wild and windy Tuesday on October 1st. Judy welcomed players to the first tournament of the season from Millicent, Kingston, Naracoorte, Naracoorte RSL, Mt Gambier, Mt Gambier RSL, Kalangadoo, Pt MacDonnell, Beachport, Penola and Robe. The day was sponsored by SAL Real Estate, Robe Fresh & Robe Seafood and Takeaway and we would like to thank them for their support, it is much appreciated. The winners were Pat Armfield, Di Scott, Anne Ratsch & Janet Lawrie(s) from Kingston and Runners-up Jan Dowell, Betty Pannell, Judith Grosvenor & Jenny Tilley (s) from Pt MacDonnell, the coastal towns doing very nicely.

A big thank you to the greens keepers and gardeners for having everything so neat and tidy after all the storms ,to Necia for being umpire, Chris for the flowers, to Jan and Judy for the official part and to Nesla and all the workers in the club house for a job well done, we need more afternoon tea next time though.

Thirty played bowls on our mixed social day on Thursday 10th , playing three bowl triples the young and the not so young had a win, with Sam Denton being able to play because of school holidays skippering the winning team of Sam, Bernice Green & Chris Davidson beating his father’s team, who were runners-up, of Mark Denton(s), Gerry Dening & Syd Kirkland.

Friday saw the beginning of our pennant season and unfortunately we had a loss to Naracoorte RSL on our home greens, RSL 52 shots 12 pts Robe 42 – 2. Nesla Boundy, Suzanne Duly, Necia Hunt and Valma Jennings (s) were win- ning, then gave an eight away, but came back fighting to recover and win 24-20. Bernice Green, Betty Alsop, Judith Bermingham & Helen Dawson lost to an on fire Cathy Healy’s team 18-32. Welcome back to Betty, nice to see you back home and playing some very good bowls after most of last year not being able to play.

The Div 2 men welcomed neighbors Kingston to Robe Saturday for pennants and unfortunately couldn’t get a much sort after win only managing a draw on one rink. Robe 72 shots 1 point lost to Kingston 81-15. Vic Dawson, Jim Gray, Mark Giles, Dean Burgoyne drew with Allan Emery’s team 28 all, Clarrie Hunt, Simon Taylor, Sam Denton & Mark Denton lost 25-31 against David Rivett’s team and Ross Dening, Adrian Bermingham, David Robinson & Errol Jennings lost 19-22 against Peter Redden’s team.

Div 5 had to travel to Francis and they made sure the trip was worth it by winning, Francis 32 shots 2 points to Robe 55- 12. Peter (on fire) Sangster, Robbie Lawrie, Barry Moore & Dennis (this is easy) Matthews(s) won 31-12 and Chris Slat- tery, Bill Cook, Brian Gilkes and Brian Nankivell went down on the last end 20-24.

Social twilight bowls and bbq will start on Wednesday 13th November, names in by 5.30pm for 6pm start. Don’t forget any beginners wishing to have a try at bowls remember Thursday mornings 10am.

Pumpkin & Bacon Soup Method 1. Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Add on- Ingredients ion and celery, cook for 1 minute and then add bacon. 1 tbs olive oil Cook until bacon browns and onion and celery soften. 1 brown onion, sliced 2. Add pumpkin, potatoes and stock to the pot, cover and 2 celery sticks, sliced bring to the boil, reduce heat to a simmer and cook 100g bacon, sliced partially covered for 25-30 mins or until pumpkin is ten- 1kg pumpkin, peeled and deseeded– roughly chopped der. Set aside to cool slightly. 600g potatoes, peeled and diced 3. Using a blender or food processor, blend soup in batch- 2L (8 cups) chicken stock es. Return to the pot, season with cracked pepper. Stir Season with cracked black pepper over low heat until warmed though. Sour cream and chives to serve 4. Serve topped with sour cream and chives
