Introduction

Firstly and foremost I want to thank you for picking up this course, I hope it brings you just as much success as it has done me. Wiki links have been one of my most powerful backlinking strategies of the the last few months, so you made a great decision picking this up.

Wiki links are one of the least talked talked about strategies out there, you'll struggle to find a blog post or another course on it (I know I did when I was trying to learn about it!), but below I'll be attempting to give you all the tools you need to make Wiki links a success. This guide is very straight to the point, there's literally zero fluff (I honestly don't even know how to fluff content, which would have made my life a lot easier when I was writing 3000 word essays in uni).

I'm not holding anything back in this guide, so as long as you talk action, you should see some good results from it like I did, so with that said, let's get straight to it

What is a Wiki

A Wiki site is basically a used by a community of who all have the ability to add or edit content.

Wiki sites are often used by universities, which is great for us, because: • Not only is the backlink powerful as it's a Wiki, but also • A Wiki .EDU link is very very powerful in the search engines’ eyes.

Wiki links are one of the least talked about ways to get a backlink. Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

It's extremely rare to see the Wiki links method mentioned on forums or blogs. But this method is used by many of the top SEO experts, who don't openly talk about it as they want to keep this method as affective as possible.

Please. Don't abuse this knowledge,

Beyond Wikipedia

The most well know Wiki out there is Wikipedia, so when most marketers hear about getting wiki links, their plan starts and stops on that site.

But it's become NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to get and keep a link on Wikipedia, so I don't even bother trying. What these people don't realise however, is that there are hundreds, if not thousands of high page rank, highly trusted out there (even some GOV and EDU ones) that are much easier and collectively much more powerful than a single link from Wikipedia.

I’m going to show you exactly how to find them.

How to find Wiki links – Method 1: The Hidden Footprint Method.

There are sixteen hidden “codes” you can enter into Google to find wiki sites, these are known as footprints. But before we do this, it's important to have the “SEO Quake” plugin installed. It's completely free and you can download it from here http://www.seoquake.com/ (Note: You'll need FireFox to use this.)

You may need to restart your browser to activate the SEOQuake FireFox addon. Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

Once you’ve done this, simply go to Google and paste in one of these Wiki footprints (copy and paste EXACTLY what you see below): allinurl:".edu/mediawiki/index.php" allinurl:".gov/mediawiki/index.php" allinurl:".com/mediawiki/index.php" allinurl:".net/mediawiki/index.php" allinurl:".org/mediawiki/index.php" allinurl:".info/mediawiki/index.php" allinurl:".com/wiki/index.php" allinurl:".net/wiki/index.php" allinurl:".org/wiki/index.php" allinurl:".info/wiki/index.php" allinurl:".edu/wiki/index.php" allinurl:".gov/wiki/index.php" site:.edu inurl:wiki site:.gov inurl:wiki Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

"There is currently no text in this page, you can search for this page title in other pages or edit this page"

"Powered by Mediawiki"

Here is an example:

As you can see, over 1 million search results have returned with just 1 footprint looking for EDU sites.

Not too shabby. And that’s just the FIRST method.

Next you want to sort the results by page rank. You can do this by clicking the arrow facing upwards next to PR in the 'sort section' Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

This will display the highest Page rank first, allowing you to get links from the most powerful sources first.

***Advanced Tip***

If you really want to go pro, I'd highly recommend you use a tool such as Scrapebox (usually $97, but you can get it for $57 through this backdoor discount http://www.scrapebox.com/cheapskate). Scrapebox is a tool I've been using with great success for around 2 years now. However, for those of you looking for a more affordable alternative, I'd recommend you check out WPS Box Pro here

What these tools allow you to do is basically automate the process of finding sites, by allowing you to enter the footprints mentioned above along with as many keywords as you like (I go into this more below), you just let it know how many result pages you'd like it to analyze and let it run, after a very short while, it'll hand the list of sites to you (you can check rage from inside of Scrapebox too)

Although you can 100% do this with just FireFox and SEOQuake, Scrapebox above will make the process of finding wiki sites a ton faster. However, rest assured you can do this manually too, you just structure it like allinurl:".com/wiki/index.php" + Keyword

What type of keywords to use

When brainstorming keyword ideas, think about the most aggressive industries online, they are usually 1 step ahead of everyone else and will most probably already have a link where you'd want one. Think of industries such as gambling, Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved credit cards, ringtones, watching movies online etc (as a cool bonus I've included over 1000 keywords that you can start using immediately just to get you started :). You can find them on the download page.

As I didn't want to offend anybody, I intentionally kept the keyword list as PG-13 as I could have but didn't search for keywords related to the adult industry, Viagra and other pharmacy related things. If you want to use those it's completely up to you, but I didn't want to include this in my guide.

How to Find Wiki Sites – Method 2: The Powered By Sniper Method

By now you've probably noticed that a lot of these wiki sites are hosted on a platform called “MediaWiki”, the majority of sites that are hosted on this platform link back to MediaWiki in the footer using the sentence “Powered by MediaWiki”.

So a pretty quick and easy way of finding Wiki sites would be to do backlink analysis of http://www.mediawiki.org and see which sites are linking to it with the “Powered by MediaWiki”.

A free website you can use to do this is http://www.BacklinkWatch.com. Simply paste the URL and click “check backlinks”. You'll find an absolutely ridiculous amount of backlinks pointing to that domain!

You'll see a column which outlines what the anchor text of the link says. Once you see “Powered by MediaWiki”, you'll know it's a wiki site Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

Oh and of course I have included a long list of Wiki sites with this course as well. I want to make sure you have more than enough places to get links from. :)

No follow Vs Do follow

When looking for sites to get backlinks from with any method, you'll find a mixed bag of no follow and do follow sites. A lot of people avoid getting no follow links as they assume that they are useless to rank your sites, this really couldn't be any further from the truth, not only do no-follow links matter, I have seen multiple case studies where people have ranked sites using no-follow links only. It's true that often times they give out less juice than do follow links, however it's important to remember that it looks highly unnatural to the search engines if all of your websites are do-follow links. Also bear in mind that the no-follow tag is only taken into account my Google; Bing and Yahoo do not differenciate

Wiki sites topics Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

You can find wiki sites on virtually any topic. Now - you may be wondering whether you'll be only restricted to related sites. The answer is absolutely not!

Ever since I started doing SEO a little over 3 years I have been building links to my sites almost exclusively from non-related sites, and I have dozens and dozens of first page rankings.

While it may be true that links from related websites may give your links a little more power, you certainly shouldn't have to restrict yourself to it. After all, a leather jacket website may link to a motorbike store as the two are somewhat related to one another, but how does a search engine determine that?

However if you're determined to find sites related to your given keyword, then simply enter the footprint, a plus sign and your keyword e.g. "Powered by Mediawiki" + weight loss

Registering on Wiki sites

The process for registering on wiki sites are super easy, all you need to do it click “Log in/Create account” which is usually in the top right hand corner

(Click here to enlarge) Once you have done that, simply click “Create an account” again and fill out the Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved form. You don't have to put any of your real details, including email address as you don't need to confirm anything (feel free to leave “real name” blank if given that option, I always do)

Once you're in all you need to do is click on the username you created, which will usually be in the top right hand corner, and then choose the option “edit this page” as shown below

See a larger version of this at http://www.theimrevolution.com/wp- content/uploads/2012/01/pic-4.png

***Advanced tip***

As you may have noticed, your username appears within the title tag and URL of this page, this gives you leverage to optimize the page a little for your chosen keyword, so to get the post power from the link, I'd highly recommend you have your username the same or related to the keyword you are going after, for example Dog Training Tips Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

What type of content to use

It is important that the content you use is 100% unique and is not available anywhere online, so it's recommended that you write up/have written up an article especially for each wiki page or spin content you already have. If you're not familiar with spinning content, it's the art of rewording an article in a way that means the exact same thing.

For example “I had a great time at the apartment” becomes “I enjoyed myself at the condo”. The purpose of this is so that the search engines don't recognize that it's the same content and treat it like it's new information.

There are basically 2 ways of spinning content:

Software spun: I use The Best Spinner for this, which has the ability to create 250+ spun articles with a couple of clicks. A free tool spinning tool I've heard a lot about is Spinner Chief.

Human spun: The downside to software spun content is that it's not always humanly readable, the most apprehensible article will sound awkward at best, which is why some people will opt for doing it themselves or hiring someone else to spin it which can be expensive

In my opinion human spinning is more trouble than it's worth, so if you're on a tight budget, I recommend you use Spinner Chief, and tidy it up yourself if need be.

Building links on Wikis

As you probably already know, you need to build links with anchor text to show the Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved search engines what term they should be ranking you for. For best results, and to decrease the chance of your links being deleted, it's vital that the links are positioned to be relevant to the wiki article. And not just stuffed in there for the sake of it.

For example:

“There are many ways in which you can house train a dog, however, one of the main ways is...”

So as you can see, in this example 'house train a dog' is the keyword that we are going after, and we have linked it in a way that adds value to the wiki page, making it a valuable resource.

I've seen a ton of people just throw their link in either on its own (without an article) or inserting it at the top of the page and then pasting any old article below.

Both of these ways are simply a waste of time.

If you just include a link without anything else, then you significantly increase the likelihood of being seen as spam and being deleted by the Wiki owners or moderator. Search engines are also able to detect whether the link is placed alone or surrounded by text, and will favour a link that is within an article that is at least 400 words.

The link itself should be formatted like [http://www.example.com link title], the screen shot below shows how you can set this up easily

Personally I don't create any more than 3 links within a page for maximum link juice and to keep the article looking informative and not there simply to get links Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

Where to link

The most obvious place is your web site. But if you want to go for a more aggressive approach and build hundreds of links in a short amount of time, or you have a new site that can't handle a ton of links, you may want to consider using Web 2.0 sites as a buffer.

So Your wiki links point to a Web 2.0 property (for example Squidoo), and in turn that Web 2.0 page links to your web site. This'll protect your site from getting too much link juice too quickly. Below is a visualization I created for you so you can see how this would be structured Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

When to link

If a wiki site that you build a link on is heavily moderated, there is a chance that your link could be removed, from my experience that chance is relatively low, but never the less it's still there. To increase the stick rate of your backlinks, you may want to create “double pass” links. Double pass basically involves creating an account and pasting in an article and then waiting for a week or so, and THEN returning and pasting in your link. Chances are that the moderator will only check the page once, usually when it's initially created and won't come back to check it, allowing your link to stick around for longer.

Anchor text variation

If you've been doing SEO for a while, you're probably well aware that you should be varying your anchor text to avoid over optimization. This is especially true when getting backlinks from super powerful sources such as Wiki sites, so it's worth mentioning to vary the anchor text up once in every couple of links. Personally I link to my sites with the anchor text I'm going after at least 60-70% of time, 20-30% of the time I'll link to my site with keywords that it'd be 'cool' to rank for, however not as Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved high priority as my initial keyword. The rest of the time I'll simply use generic keywords like “click here” or www.mydomain.com to make it look truly natural in the eyes of the search engines.

Pinging your Wiki links

As you can imagine, the internet is growing at a phenomenal speed, every single day thousands of new websites are created and hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of new web pages are created on existing websites. So the search engines probably won't find your page for a while without our help. So pinging your backlink page is super important to ensure that Google and the other search engines see your Wiki page. If they don't see the links, it's almost as good as not building them at all. That's why it's important to 'ping' your backlinks, this alerts the search engines that there is something for them to see. To ping my backlinks. I use http://www.pingfarm.com/. It's completely free and you can ping multiple sites in one go, simply paste the that contain your backlinks and hit “Mass ping” at the bottom and the software will do the rest.

***Advanced Tip***

Linking to your links

I guess this would come under the “advanced strategy” section, but in reality, it's so drop dead easy to do, that there's no reason why marketers of all levels shouldn't be doing it. Building a second tier of links (i.e. building backlinks to your Wiki pages) can increase link juice by 200-300%. It's that powerful. It may sound like a ton of extra work but it really isn't, you should not be building these second tier links manually, it's just really not worth your time. I use BackBlasts where you can get 3000 profile links a month for as low as $9.99. These links shouldn't be used directly to your own sites as they aren't as powerful as they used to be, however, Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved they work really really well as second-tier links and using a buffer site (in this case the Wiki page) will protect your site from being penalized by Google. To avoid any confusion, I've made a diagram that I've posted below on how to set this up

Note: For illustration purposes, I've only shown 2 profile links to each Wiki Page, but I would build a minimum of 50 profile links to each Wiki page

Internal links

If you don't know how powerful internal linking is, this could make a HUGE difference in terms of how you do SEO from here on out. Internal linking is basically when you link from one page to another within the same site. What a lot of people don't realise is that this transfers a ton of link juice, and it's a link completely within our control. What does this mean in terms of Wiki links? Glad you asked.. To really maximize the power of your backlink, you can build another backlink from that same site, to that Wiki page. This'll give it a ton of link juice as not only is it an internal link, but it's a super powerful link linking to another super powerful link that links to your website. Confused? Here's another diagram explanation Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved

Outsourcing

If you're making at least $500/month online, there is absolutely no reason why you should be doing this yourself. Once you get your head around the concept, you'll find that it's a system easily given to an outsourcer to do with little or no involvement from yourself.

You can quite easily hire a virtual assistant to work for you part time (80 hours a month) for $150, that's around $1.88 an hour. When you think about how many of these Wiki pages your VA could make in those 80 hours a month, you'll realise it's an excellent investment to have someone build these for you in the background while you're off doing something else, whether it's business related or not.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed reading this guide, and most importantly put what you've learned into action, because it really is just as simple as that. But please don't interpret the simplicity of this method to mean it's something that won't be very powerful, because I assure you, if you stick with it, and go do everything I talk about in this course, you will see ranking movement. So now you know what you're doing, please go over to the URLs provided and start taking action on this immediately, so you can see the fastest results :) Wiki Link Blueprint – Ruchi Vasishta – Marketing Go Getter 2012 – All Rights Reserved
