Representative Doug Wardlow – Biography

Elected to the House in 2010 Doug Wardlow represents Legislative District 38B, comprised of the eastern and southern portions of Eagan, Minnesota, Rep. Wardlow’s hometown. Rep. Wardlow sits on the Taxes Committee, the Civil Law Committee, the Judiciary Policy and Finance Committee, and the Property Tax Division.

As a practicing attorney with experience in matters of constitutional law, Rep. Wardlow has focused much of his attention at the legislature on important issues that have significant implications for our constitutional order, the rule of law, and the blessings of liberty secured by the same. Rep. Wardlow chief-authored legislation to bar implementation of a Insurance Exchange in Minnesota, crafted a unique version of the Freedom of Choice in Health Care bill and led a successful floor fight to pass the bill as an amendment to the Health and Human Services finance bill, and chief- authored important tort-reform legislation. Recently, Rep. Wardlow was instrumental in forming the Conservative Study Group, a group of members within the House Republican Caucus that meets weekly to focus attention on conservative principles and promote policies that foster and safeguard the founding principles upon which our liberty and prosperity depend.

In the private sector, Rep. Wardlow is a litigation attorney at the law firm of Parker Rosen, LLC, where his practice focuses on business litigation and protecting the rights of property owners in condemnation proceedings. Before joining Parker Rosen, Rep. Wardlow practiced international trade litigation at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in Washington D.C. Rep. Wardlow also practiced business litigation at Faegre & Benson LLP in Minneapolis, representing both Minnesota and national companies in a number of contract, real estate, and other litigation matters. Following law school, Rep. Wardlow served for one year as the principal law clerk for Justice G. .

Rep. Wardlow earned his law degree with honors from Georgetown University Law Center. At Georgetown, Rep. Wardlow earned two C.A.L.I. awards for writing the best overall examinations in Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence. In addition, Rep. Wardlow clerked for the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts and volunteered in the offices of Congressmen and . Rep. Wardlow also spent a summer clerking at the law firm of Lee and Li, Taipei, Taiwan, where he worked on a government-related international construction dispute worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

A student of Chinese language and culture, Rep. Wardlow has spent significant time studying, working and traveling in China and Taiwan, and he works hard to retain his proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. In addition to receiving a double-minor in Mandarin from Georgetown University, Rep. Wardlow spent a semester studying the language at Beijing University in Beijing, China. During a separate stay at Beijing University, Rep. Wardlow completed English-language coursework on Chinese law. While practicing international trade at Skadden Arps, Rep. Wardlow focused primarily on matters involving Chinese industrial subsidies and exports, working on countervailing and antidumping duty petitions and sunset reviews before the Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission as well as appeals to the Court of International Trade.
