Kid Rock: Un Abans I Un Desprès It's only rock & roll | Pep Saña | Actualitzat el 01/06/2016 a les 21:03 Kid Rock: Un abans i un desprès. La transformació de Robert James "Bob" Ritchie, mes conegut per Kid Rock, del rap al rock d'arrels americanes influït per Fogerty i Bob Seger no ha estat senzilla, més que res perquè va aconseguir la seva fama com a músic de rap obsessionat amb el rock, i que bevia de la fusió d'aquests estils als quals fins i tot afegia el country. Va ser valent per la seva part, tot i que aquesta reinvenció hagi estat complicada, perdent una multitud dels anteriors fans i apostant pel rock americà. Musicalment, gens dolent el canvi, s'ha d'aplaudir, agrair i posar en valor. A la seva etapa rapera, ja era un gegantesc frontman, que es movia com a peix a l'aigua entre l'estret espai que separa el clam del públic i les explosions pirotècniques del seu espectacle, un músic amb identitat pròpia. Un abans i un desprès. Va créixer escoltant els principis del hip hop dels Fat Boys i Run DMC, així com les icones del rock de Detroit Bob Seger i MC5. Al 1990 va publicar el seu primer disc de rap. Desprès d'anys de tours i discos dels quals amb algun va arribar a vendre vuit milions de copies, al 2001 amb l'àlbum Cocky, va llançar el single Picture, la balada a duet amb Sheryl Crow, convertint-se en un hit massiu, de sobte Kid Rock, es va tornar més popular que mai, i al 2002 amb l'àlbum Kid Rock, la popularitat va anar en augment, tant pels seus senzills com pels seus concerts. En aquests dos treballs el rap ja no dominava, s'hi barrejaven temes del més pur accent country i sureny, començava el punt d'inflexió però ningú intuïa el que vindria més endavant. Així doncs, Kid va decidir allunyar-se de l'estil seguit en els seus anteriors àlbums, admirador confés del rock sureny dels Allman Brothers i Lynyrd Skynyrd, i del country dels John Fogerty, Bob Seger, Hank Williams Jr. o Johnny Cash, va decidir investigar en les arrels de la música americana i afegir tocs de Country i Southern. El resultat, espectacular, ja voldrien molts facturar aquest quatre discos (fins ara) de rock sureny, country i rock americà, pur i genuí sabor yankee. A partir d'aquest moment, les seves aparicions per cantar temes a duet en concerts de les grans estrelles del rock americà com Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, Aerosmith o Bon Jovi entre d'altres serien constants, com tancar alguns dels seus concerts amb el Born In The USA de Bruce Springsteen. Ara aquest paio amb pinta de ?paleto? sureny (però nascut a Michigan), amb un posat entre ?macarra? i hortera i fumador de puros havans, torna per la porta gran amb un àlbum excel·lent. Rock n Roll Jesus ens porta un Kid Rock pletòric, més rocker i obert a altres sonoritats i allunyat del rap, però amb la mateixa barreja explosiva de sexe, religió i drogues a les lletres de les seves cançons. El disc l'obre el tema homònim que dona nom al disc, una peça festiva, d'aquelles que et dona bon rotllo i et posa les piles nomes començar. New Orleans amb una barreja d'estils country blues, sona deliciosa. Don't Tell My You Love Me ens porta el rock balada de tornada guitarrera. Half Your Age és el seu encertadíssim acostament al country més clàssic, mentre que Lowlife (Living The Highlife), el tema extra, és un rock reposat d'arrels americanes. En aquest àlbum tampoc hi ha hip hop, hi ha pur rock sureny, rock tradicional americà i country rock. Per a l'ocasió, Kid Rock s'ha envoltat d'uns músics de sessió de pes, que donen a l'àlbum un so excel·lent juntament amb la producció del gurú dels discos de rock Rick Rubin. Entre aquests músics ens trobem al bateria Chad Smith, dels Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matt Sweeney, guitarrista d'Iggy Pop, David Hidalgo, guitarrista de Los Lobos, i Benmont Tench, el mític teclista que acompanya a Tom Petty & Heartbreakers. Una banda cinc estrelles, sens dubte. I com Born Free és un disc de celebració, Kid Rock no ha volgut privar-se de la presència de més col·legues, i ha comptat amb la participació d'artistes molt propers al nou estil adoptat, com són Sheryl Crow, Zac Brown, Martina McBride o l'origen de tot aquest canvi, Bob Seger. Born Free és un disc impecable, genial, festiu, cap tema té desperdici, per escoltar si us agrada el rock americà de bar ?cutre? on només beuen bourbon, fa olor de vaca, senyores molt ?apretadetes? et miren desafiant amb els seus barrets de cowboy i es disfruta d'una Budweiser i tota la parafernàlia yankee. Funciona i torna a emocionar. Kid Rock no busca l'obra d'art, sinó una hora de pura diversió, amb credibilitat, arrossegant la seva veu bruta a través de cançons de rock clàssic amb matisos surenys i souleros, facturant cançons que semblen ser oracions al més radiant del sols i a la més suculenta de les barbacoes. Pot agradar-te o no, però el tio és real i autèntic, tant com per derivar ideològicament cap al partit republicà en la mateixa línia que el seu compatriota de Detroit Ted Nugent. I és que Kid Rock és això, el sabor de l'Amèrica profunda, banda sonora de ?garito?, amb cors negres, guitarres slide que volen i piano de taverna de carretera, tot en una producció de luxe, altra vegada per Rick Rubin (que no treballa amb qualsevol). No hi ha més, i es el que hi ha. L'estona d'escoltar-lo haurà merescut la pena, perquè Kid Rock si sap fer alguna cosa és barrejar influencies i estils en la seva pròpia identitat. Ha arribat lluny, ha aconseguit públic de tot tipus, les seves vendes són importants pels temps que corren i al llarg de la seva transformació a rocker ha enlluernat a noms més que respectables com el propi Bob Seger, que per qui no el conegui, a USA es tan o més admirat que Bruce Springsteen o Hank Williams Jr., qui presta la seva col·laboració en el videoclip de Redneck Paradise.
