Don't Let the Berejiklian Government Kill Live Music AN OPEN LETTER TO MUSIC AND CULTURE LOVERS OF AUSTRALIA DON’T LET THE BEREJIKLIAN GOVERNMENT KILL LIVE MUSIC Don’t Kill Live Music Rally 6pm – 8pm Thursday February 21st Hyde Park Sydney Dear music lovers, Your music is under attack. Overbearing regulation, exorbitant police bills, a lack of respect for NSW businesses, and very little recognition of the significant positive impacts of music on our communities is forcing music out of NSW. The State Government have declared a war on music and cul- ture in NSW, proclaiming that music, and music festivals are high risk activities. Music is being killed off by Premier Berejiklian and the LNP. Festivals are being forced to cancel or move interstate. The NSW State Government is vilifying live music with knee-jerk regulation (more details here). Instead of consulting with festival experts, the NSW Government imposed punitive regulation that specifically targets music festivals, and music fans. Festivals are being used as a scapegoat for years of failed drug and alcohol policy. We want our music culture to be safe and inclusive. Onerous and ill-considered regulation will not save lives. And the State Government is decimating our music culture in the process. We demand that the State Government: • Stops killing live music in NSW • Forms a music regulation roundtable to review all regulation impacting live music • Immediately undertakes a Regulatory Impact Statement for any regulation impact- ing music festivals • Develops an industry standard with full transparency for user-pays policing and medical services • Works with the music industry to develop robust, effective and achievable safety protocols for festivals Don’t let the Premier Berejiklian and the State Government take music away from you. You deserve better. NSW deserves better. Please see the list of signatories and supporters below… WHAT CAN YOU DO? RALLY Come to the Don’t Kill Live Music Rally 6pm – 8pm Thursday Feb 21st, Hyde Park Syd- ney. Register here: Don’t Kill Live Music Rally 2019 In an ironic twist, February 23rd will be the nine-year anniversary of the SLAM rally in Mel- bourne. PETITION Sign this petition to demand the Berejiklian government stop killing live music HERE. Don’t let Gladys kill live music. Don’t sit back and watch them ruin NSW. WE ARE HERE. WE ARE LOUD. WE ARE ANGRY. AND WE VOTE! • WA EDRS Bulletin Stimulant Events.Pdf
Authors: Jodie Grigg, Simon Lenton and Amy Peacock National Drug Research Institute Faculty of Health Sciences, Curtin University • Among the 2018 EDRS sample, 12% reported recently experiencing significant adverse effects following ecstasy use. • Younger age and screening positive for potential ecstasy dependence (SDS score ≥ 3) was associated with significantly greater odds of reporting recent adverse effects. • These findings suggest more frequent, less severe adverse consequences should perhaps be given more attention than they are currently, and could be an opportunity for early intervention. • Further efforts should be made to identify novel ways to identify and engage at risk young people. Drug checking services could be one way of engaging this hard-to-reach population. In a number of countries, including Australia, ecstasy-related deaths have become an increasing public health concern (1). According to media reports, in Australia there have been at least 15 deaths linked to drugs sold as ‘ecstasy’ in the past 5 years alone (2-9). However, official statistics are currently unavailable as the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) use International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision (ICD-10) coding which groups ecstasy with wider psychostimulants, such as methamphetamine (10). While Australia also has the National Coronial Information System (NCIS), which allows access to detailed toxicology information for authorised persons, there are normally lags of 1-3 years. Similarly, the number of hospitalisations associated with ‘ecstasy’ use is also unavailable due to these same coding issues. Although some jurisdictions are beginning to systematically collect and test biological samples from hospital patients, at present these initiatives appear limited (11).

Newsletter Week 6 Term 2 Friday 31 May 2019 2019 Senior Dramatic Production – Richard III In this issue BGSEntrepreneurship Newsletter | Lead Article GPS Cross Country Last chance for tickets Executive Director – Advancement and Community Relations Heather Hamilton Building on Brisbane Grammar School's philanthropic heritage Since Brisbane Grammar School's foundation in 1868, the School has developed and inspired generations of well- rounded boys who have succeeded at home and abroad. From our early beginnings, it was through the generosity of our community that BGS derived the ability to provide an outstanding education for boys. This tradition of generosity continues to this day thanks to our community of parents, Old Boys, staff, volunteers and donors. Over the past few years, the BGS community has rallied together to support Campaign 2020, with the goal to raise $20M by 2020 for our Bursary Fund, which enables boys in financial need to attend Brisbane Grammar School. Our aspirations for a sustainable Bursary Fund, with the capacity to provide needs-based bursarial support for 10% of the student population (170 boys), is close to being achieved. With $14.5M raised, we are moving into the final phase of this campaign – Our 2020 Vision – with $5.5M to go. In 2018, BGS provided bursarial assistance for 44 boys without having to draw on either the School’s operational budget or the capital of the fund. The entire community supported this endeavour, with contributions from parents, Old Boys and staff vital to the continued growth of the fund. I extend a heartfelt thanks to the P&F Auxiliary for their generous ongoing support, pledging $500,000 for a bursary in perpetuity, and to our 332 parent and Old Boy donors who continue to support BGS initiatives.

Lord Mayor launches Grandeur & Grit Well over 200 specially invited people gath- ered at the Glebe Branch Library on Tuesday 16 October for the launch of Max Solling’s long-awaited history of Glebe. The wait was well worth while as Lord Mayor Clover Moore indicated in her speech. It is a hand- some volume – replicated as one of the most amazing cakes we have ever seen! Superbly enlarged photographs from the book adorned the Library and entrance hall of Benledi. Finding just the right illustrations was one of the reasons why publication was somewhat delayed, as well as Max’s determination to check every detail of his research. Clover commented again in the course of her talk on the strong community spirit in Glebe and how much the City appreciated the kind of feedback and responses that it receives from this particular one of its villages. The evening’s proceedings were led by the City of Sydney Historian, Dr Shirley Fitzgerald. Max’s response to the launch of his book is The Lord Mayor.
