INPEX Makes Final Investment Decision on “Shin Tokyo Line” Natural Gas Pipeline Extension in Japan

Tokyo, Japan - INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) announced today that it has made a final investment decision on the fifth stage extension of the “Shin Tokyo Line” natural gas trunk pipeline to further secure a stable natural gas supply to the northern Kanto region of Japan, where natural gas demand is expected to grow steadily.

The fifth stage extension of the Shin Tokyo Line, which currently extends approximately 213 kilometers from Joetsu City in Prefecture to Fujioka City in , will lengthen the pipeline by approximately 16 kilometers from Fujioka City in the direction of Tokyo. The extension will also enhance supply capacity by extending the double tracking sector also served by the “Tokyo Line.” Following the extension, the Shin Tokyo Line will extend 229 kilometers to Honjo City in Prefecture where it will connect to the Tokyo Line, which largely runs parallel to the Shin Tokyo Line.

On September 1, 2021, INPEX will set up a Pipeline Construction Office in Honjo City from where it will manage construction work associated with the extension.

Separately, INPEX has decided to forgo the second stage double tracking of the “” over a six-kilometer stretch between Kamisato Town and Honjo City both in , for which it has conducted a feasibility study. This decision is based on INPEX’s expectation that stable gas supply can be secured. The Ryomo Line currently extends approximately 89 kilometers from Honjo City to Tatebayashi City in Gunma Prefecture and to Sano City in Prefecture.

INPEX will contribute to stable energy supply, environmental protection and economic and social development by stably supplying diverse energy in a cleaner way to customers in Japan and around the world, towards the realization of a net zero carbon society by 2050.
