I took on the role of chairman but I’m still not sure how this Chairman Len Royles all came about! So this is my first official post in the NKG magazine. This year I think will be described as an “annus horribilis” for the Len stood down as disruption of everyday life as we know it. I fear that for a lot of people, Chairman after six life will never be the same again. We have never experienced this years but will continue before. But if we all follow the guidelines about staying at home, to play an active part washing hands, keeping your distance from others we can pick up in the Group by taking our kite-flying again, possibly later this year and if not then next year. the childrens’ rainbow Good luck and good health to you all and your loved ones in the delta kites to festivals. -

The article also include a history of kite. The categories of kite presented are: leading edge inflatable kites and foil kites. First category includes the C-kite, the hybrid kite and. INTRODUCTION Due to the social and economic actual context, characterized by an accelerated rhythm the need for relaxation and leisure began to be increasingly filled by practicing extreme sports, especially those can be performed on air and water or both. Kitesurfing A - Z A Airfoil (aerofoil): a wing, kite, or sail used to generate lift or propulsion. Airtime: the amount of time spent in the air while jumping. AOA, Angle of Attack: also known as the angle of incidence (AOI) is the angle with which the kite flies in relation to the wind. Increasing AOA generally gives more lift. AOI, Angle of Incidence: angle which the kite takes compared to the wind direction Apparent wind, AW: The wind felt by the kite or rider as they pass through the air. For instance, if the true wind is blowing North at 10 knots and the kite is moving West at 10 knots, the apparent wind on the kite is NW at about 14 knots. The apparent wind direction shifts towards the direction of travel as speed increases. Aspect Ratio, AR: the ratio of a kites width to height (span to chord). Kites can range between a high aspect ratio of about 5.0 or a low aspect ratio of about 3.0. AR5: The legendary first 4 line inflatable kite manufactured by Naish. ARC: a foil kite manufactured by Peter Lynn B Back Loop: a kitesurfing trick where the kiter rotates backward (begins by turning their back toward the kite) while throwing his/her feet above the level of his/her head. Back Roll: same as a back loop but without getting their feet up high. Batten: a length of carbon or plastic which adds stiffness or shape to the kite or sail. Bear Away / Bear Off: change your direction of travel to a more downwind direction. -

Very briefly these are: The LEI Kite Leading Edge Inflatable (LEI) Kites - LEI simply means that the kite has an inflatable structure, any kite that needs to be pumped up is an LEI. The Shadows of Our Past – Part II The Evolution of Modern Fitness Training Settings “The distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” Albert Einstein Introduction In Part I of this series entitled Shadows of Our Past, we brought forward 15 of the most influential innovations in fitness equipment that have taken place over the past 3,000 years, and how each of these innovations has cast a large shadow on the equipment offerings of the 21st Century. In Part II of this series on the history of fitness, we will focus on bringing forward the most influential fitness constructs and facility offerings of the past, and how each has crafted what the fitness facility industry is today. This article, like the others in this series, has been adapted from a three-part series we wrote for Les Mills in 2019 based on the content from the book Legends of Fitness, authored by Peterson, O’Rourke and Tharrett. The Emergence of Structured Fitness No one knows exactly when structured exercise made a formal entry into the lifestyle of humans. The earliest records of man indicate that around 2,000 B.C. (over 4,000 years ago) Egyptians formally introduced structured acrobatics and fitness training. Egyptian culture saw acrobatics as both entertainment and sport, and its practitioners realized that to excel in this early form of sport entertainment, they had to train appropriately. This led to the introduction of structured fitness regimens involving bodyweight calisthenics and improvised apparatus. The Egyptians were not the only civilization that had come to the realization that exercise was important, or as we might say today, exercise is medicine. -

There, in place, were barbells and dumbells that were incremented in reasonable poundages, lat machines made with professional parts, benches that did not wobble. And friendship. In those days, gyms often held Grand Openings, but, of course, not Grand Closings. While the start of a new gym may have been announced in the muscle mags, the failures were not billboarded. Therefore, since the sources used to produce the following list of gyms were primarily drawn from the pages of various magazines in the field, only the startings of some gyms are recorded here. Endings have trailed into vagueness. You can help us define the histories of these and other gyms. The list which follows is very incomplete, but with your help it can become more accurate and double or triple in length and substance. If you have any information about these or other gyms in North America during this century—any brochure, newspaper clipping, photo, or personal recollection—please share them with IGH and we will try to gather even more information about these other gyms. Again, please do not assume that we have information just because you have it. You may have a rare bit of documentation. Any help will be welcomed. Study this list, and remember. This research attempts to ¯ll this need, and considers particularly the performance of kite anemometers. An instrumented kite tether was designed and built to study kite performance. It measures line tension, inclination and azimuth at the ground, :sampling each variable at 5 or 10 Hz. The results are transmitted as a digital code and stored by microcomputer. Accurate anemometers are used simultaneously to measure the wind local to the kite, and the results are stored parallel with the tether data. As a necessary background to the experiments and analysis, existing kite information is collated, and simple models of the kite system are presented, along with a more detailed study of the kiteline and its influence on the kite system. A representative selection of single line kites has been flown from the tether in a variety of wind conditions. -
