CITY OF KENNER OFFICE OF THE MAYOR EDMOND J. “ED” MUNIZ EMILE LAFOURCADE MAYOR ASSISTANT TO THE MAYOR, PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 5, 2009 EDDIE MONEY BRINGS SOLID MUSIC HITS TO LAKETOWN Popular Local Acts Round Out Second Annual Festival Eddie Money, the longtime rock singer and musician is the headline act for the second annual Laketown Festival in Kenner Saturday. He brings to the stage a solid background of experience of New York roots, solid West Coast rock from bands ranging from Janis Joplin’s Big Brothers & the Holding Company and Santana to the pulsating blues of the South. Money began life in 1949 as Edward Joseph Mahoney. After becoming a police officer like his father, his interests turned to music and he headed to California to become a musician. He moved to Berkeley, California, and became a regular at area clubs, where he eventually came to the attention of record companies and got a recording contract with Columbia Records in the late ‘60s. In the 1970s and 1980s he put together a string of hits and successful albums, charting with singles such as "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise". He also charted with several humorous music videos on MTV through the 80s, including "Shakin’” and "Think I'm in Love." However, his career began to falter after several unsuccessful releases in the mid-1980s, accompanied by his struggles with drug addiction. He made a comeback two years later in 1986 and returned to the mainstream with the album “Can't Hold Back,” which featured a duet with Ronnie Spector on "Take Me Home Tonight", which reached the Top 10, along with the hit "I Wanna Go Back." Money followed the album with another Top 10 hit in 1988 with "Walk on Water." His Top 40 career ended when "I'll Get By" charted in 1992. 1801 WILLIAMS BOULEVARD – BUILDING B, SUITE 214 – KENNER, LOUISIANA 70062 – OFFICE 504-468-4091 – FAX 504-464-6148 WWW.KENNER.LA.US – [email protected] Since then Eddie Money continues to release records, often compilations of his hits, and tour extensively. More recently he includes his daughter, Jesse Money, a blues-rock singer, in some of his appearances to the delight of the audience. It’s obvious the acorn does not fall far from the tree. Rounding out the entertainment at the Laketown Festival are Cowboy Mouth, with lead singer/drummer Fred LeBlanc whose on-stage athletic antics are a crowd pleaser; rock cover band Chee Weez and their array of costumes which will please just about anyone as they pound out rock favorites across three decades; Rockin’ Dopsie, whose zydeco influenced Louisiana Swamp rock gets ‘em dancing in the aisles, and perennial favorites the Top Cats, a solid cover band that does everything from swing and R&B to rap and rock with master precision. For football fans, the LSU vs. Alabama game will be on large screen TV in a special tent. In addition to the great music and football, the food and drink comes from favorite restaurants around Kenner – Messina’s: Italian sausage and peppers sandwiches and muffalettas. LaBella’s: Crawfish Pasta, File` gumbo, and Bread pudding. Smitty’s: Fish plate, Shrimp plate, Onion mum, and Crawfish balls. Copeland’s: Bayou broccoli, Spinach dip & chips, and Shrimp etouffe. All Pro Catering: Jambalaya, Pulled pork sandwich and Funnel cakes. Liuzza’s Sports Bar: Daiquiris. Dippin’ Dots: Ice cream. Kenner Recreation Department: Hamburgers and Hot dogs. Gates open at 11 a.m. and the entertainment begins at noon. Tickets available at main gate - $7 for adults (13 and up) and $2 for kids (12 and under). Began Her Professional Career in 1966 at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich

SUSAN COLLINS began her professional career in 1966 at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village singing with Jimi Hendrix in Jimmy James and the Blue Flames, the ground-breaking guitarist’s group just before he left NYC for London. Then a sophomore straight out of Brooklyn’s Lafayette High, Susan was managed by singer-songwriter Richie Havens, with whom she later attended Woodstock, flying in by helicopter. In 2011 Susan’s close friend and musical director of 35 years, Paul Shaffer stated: “Susan Collins is my favorite singer…period!” Paul calls her “my BFF and a singer’s singer - what a voice!” In 2006 Susan sang a song she co-wrote with Paul, on a bill with Harry Shearer, Marshall Crenshaw, and They Might Be Giants at NYC’s Canal Room. Of this performance, Fox News.com’s Roger Friedman wrote: “Collins is terrific. She can hold her own with Ronnie Spector any day of the week.” Susan appeared with Spector, Lesley Gore, Lala Brooks et. al. at Lincoln Center’s girl group tribute SHE’S GOT THE POWER in the summer of 2011. YOU CAN TAKE THE GIRL OUTTA BROOKLYN, Susan’s autobiographical musical revue (originated at bergenPac NJ before its NYC run), tells the story of how she started singing a cappella on the street corner of her housing project in the 1960s and went on to a career in the music business, making key vocal contributions to numerous hit records, TV shows, movies and advertising. Recipient of the ASCAP Award for songwriting, Susan’s first day job was writing for legendary producer/TV host and 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, the late Don Kirshner.

But the evidence of his greatest hits insists that he was heavily dependent on a variety of assistance. Which makes sense: Record making is fundamentally collaborative. Spector associates like engineer Larry Levine, arranger Jack Nitzsche, and husband-wife songwriters Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich were simply indispensable to his teen-art concoctions. Besides them, every Spector track featured a dozen or more musicians. The constant standouts were' drummer Hal Blaine, one of the most inventive and prolific in rock history, and saxophonist Steve Douglas. Finally, there were vast differences among Spector's complement of singers. An important part of Spector's genius stemmed from his ability to recruit, organize, and provide leadership within such a musical community. Darlene Love (who also recorded for Spector with the Crystals and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans) ranks just beneath Aretha Franklin among female rock singers, and "Christmas" is her greatest record, though it was never a hit. (The track probably achieved its greatest notice in the mid-eighties, when it was used over the opening credits of Joe Dante's film, Gremlins.) Spector's Wall of Sound, with its continuously thundering horns and strings, never seemed more massive than it does here.

Stockton Goes to the Beach Presents Ronnie Spector of the Ronettes Coming to the Cape May Convention Center July 29 For Immediate Release Wednesday, June 26, 2013 Contact: Suzé DiPietro Interim Director, Stockton PAC Galloway Township, NJ 08205 [email protected] (609) 652-4927 Galloway Township, NJ – The 12th annual Stockton Goes to the Beach Summer Concert Series continues at the Cape May Convention Center in Cape May, NJ for the summer of 2013, with Ronnie Spector and her revolutionary performing style lighting up the stage on Monday, July 29 at 8 p.m. Spector’s sensuality, dress, attitude and sound have served as an inspiration for a generation of rock ‘n’ roll women. Tickets are priced at $35 and may be ordered online at www.capemaycity.com or by calling 1-855-708-9699 or by going to the Cape May Convention Center. Beginning in 1963, Ronnie Spector - as lead singer of the ultimate girl group, The Ronettes - recorded a long string of classic pop hits: powerful, poignant teen anthems such as the Grammy Award-winning “Walking in the Rain,” “Do I Love You,” “Baby I Love You,” “The Best Part of Breaking Up,” “I Can Hear Music,” and the international Number One smash, “Be My Baby.” Only a few artists in history have been capable of defining an entire era in pop music. Ronnie Spector is one of those artists: the embodiment of the heart, soul, and passion of female rock and roll in the 1960s. And to this day, no one has ever surpassed Ronnie's powerful Colpix label.

GRAM PARSONS LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie Van Varik

GRAM PARSONS LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. As performed in principal recordings (or demos) by or with Gram Parsons or, in the case of Gram Parsons compositions, performed by others. Gram often varied, adapted or altered the lyrics to non-Parsons compositions; those listed here are as sung by him. Gram’s birth name was Ingram Cecil Connor III. However, ‘Gram Parsons’ is used throughout this document. Following his father’s suicide, Gram’s mother Avis subsequently married Robert Parsons, whose surname Gram adopted. Born Ingram Cecil Connor III, 5th November 1946 - 19th September 1973 and credited as being the founder of modern ‘country-rock’, Gram Parsons was hugely influenced by The Everly Brothers and included a number of their songs in his live and recorded repertoire – most famously ‘Love Hurts’, a truly wonderful rendition with a young Emmylou Harris. He also recorded ‘Brand New Heartache’ and ‘Sleepless Nights’ – also the title of a posthumous album – and very early, in 1967, ‘When Will I Be Loved’. Many would attest that ‘country-rock’ kicked off with The Everly Brothers, and in the late sixties the album Roots was a key and acknowledged influence, but that is not to deny Parsons huge role in developing it. Gram Parsons is best known for his work within the country genre but he also mixed blues, folk, and rock to create what he called “Cosmic American Music”. While he was alive, Gram Parsons was a cult figure that never sold many records but influenced countless fellow musicians, from the Rolling Stones to The Byrds.
