Danby Lodge ‐ Places to eat

Within Walking distance

Due to the house's secluded location in the woods, it's a reasonable walk to anywhere to eat ‐ around 20 minutes. However, if you don't want to drive, there are a couple of options. These are the following :

Rising Sun in Moseley Green : Moseley Green, Parkend, GL15 4HN Phone : 01594 562 008

The Bailey Inn in Yorkley : Bailey Hill, Yorkley, Lydney, GL15 4RP Phone 01594 562 670

Both serve basic pub food. Nothing special, but decent, basic food. The Rising Sun is probably the better of the two. They are both around 15‐20 minutes walk from the house, although the quickest route to the Rising Sun is through the Forest.

To get to the Bailey inn, you just walk back up the track which goes down to the house until you get the Yorkley, out to the main road, turn right and walk down the hill for a couple of minutes ‐ it's the yellow building on the left.

To get to the Rising Sun, take the gate at the top of the garden by the pond (through the arch), turn right out of the gate and head over to the path that goes down the hill. This path runs about 20 metres down to a vehicle track (Category 1A road). Turn left onto the vehicle track and walk for about 10 minutes. You will come around a long sweeping left hand turn and onto a straight. Walk down this straight for about 100 metres and you will come to a place where there is a walking track/greenlane which crosses the Category 1A road. Turn right here down quite a steep hill. After about 100 metres, you will come to another Cat 1A road. Cross over this and follow the path across the field ‐ the terrain starts to flatten out here. After about 200 metres, you will come to a tarmac road. Cross this and the Rising Sun is on the other side.

There's a printed map showing the route through the Forest included with this guide, so have a look at this if you want to try the walk.
