March 2020

Page 1 of 13 Overview Colleges and Universities in the , and Borders regions are working in partnership to create a web application that provides a single source of information for articulation1 study pathways. The recognises the importance of this as part of the “The 15-24 Learner Journey Review2” and “A Blueprint for Fairness: Commission on Widening Access3” and the are part of the group progressing this key important project. Ultimately the web application has the potential to go wide…

The pathways/routes of study from HNC/D exists across many colleges and universities, but the advertising, promotion and understanding of the routes is often complex and difficult for pupils, students and advisers to find and navigate. The application solution is being developed to resolve these issues.

The application solution will be mobile device friendly and provide a one stop shop for those either studying a HN qualification or those still to decide which path of study to take.

Users The target user base includes school pupils, college students and adults looking to return to education. Those providing advice and guidance are also seen as potential users e.g. SDS careers advisers, college/university student advisers, parents and guardians. The web application will be device friendly and adjust to view and function fully on a mobile device screen.

The Logo The proposed web application name is “Routefinder”, as this is descriptive of the function, builds on the legacy of a historical system which sought to share similar information with students, and the partnership also owns the relevant URL, but is this the best name? Does it convey the correct message and make sense to the intended user groups? Can we say ‘It does what it says on the tin’?

This is where you and the competition come in…

With students being one of the main target group of users, we would like an individual student or group of students to submit their design ideas, with the winning design being used in the final web application. We would like entrants to use the project name “RouteFinder” OR create a better more user friendly name. You should then be creative and using the name as a

The logo should be accessible, attractive, clear and considering its target audience, portray what the web application is about. It is anticipated that the logo can be used on its own or in conjunction with the application name.

Key messages that could be incorporated into the logo, but are not limited to, include:

 Education  Progression  Higher  Opportunity  Achievement  Degree  Pathways  College  Access  Routes  University  Success

Note:  The logo should be usable in non-colour format i.e. black and white.  Must be usable across different formats – online and offline  Any fonts used need to be available to be used for commercial purposes. The new web application solution is being developed to resolve this issue.

The web application will be mobile device friendly and provide a one stop shop for those either studying a HN qualification or those still to decide which path of study to take.

Page 5 of 13 and guidance are also seen as potential users e.g. careers advisers, college/university student advisers, parents and guardians.
