Creating Impact. Everywhere. Everyday. 2020 Annual Impact Report YOUR GIFT POWERS HOPE Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City is the heart of the Kansas City Jewish community. In addition to funding 78 programs and initiatives through 45 partner organizations, we build community by bringing people together, strengthening Jewish identity, developing leaders and inspiring generosity. We fulfill our mission of sustaining and enhancing Jewish life at home and around the world. We ensure a healthy, vibrant Jewish community now and into the future. FROM OUR CEO & BOARD CHAIR

Friends and neighbors,

What a year this was! COVID-19 seemed to dominate every part of our lives. The urgent needs in the community rose quickly, and we all had to adjust to a new way of operating. And despite all this, Federation was there to meet the increased demands because of you and your support. At the onset of the pandemic, we reacted quickly and were able to raise $85,000 for emergency assistance. In addition, we met the JFNA matching grant goal for Human Services needs—you helped us raise $222,000 to get $111,000 in matching funds. Assisting Village Shalom for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needs, Torah Learning Center for Kosher Meals on Wheels, JVS for Career Skills and Connections program, JFS for mental health counseling at KU Hillel, KU , and our Chesed Fund were all possible because of your generosity. This was all in addition to surpassing our Annual Campaign goal of $5.25 million! The community was in need, and you stepped up! We also realized many program achievements. Federation and The J initiated Jewish Experiences, a new community engagement partnership. The idea was to provide robust opportunities for Jewish connection and learning with a particular focus on engaging Jews less connected with congregations and other organizations. Federation engaged research partners Brandeis University and the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago to collect, report, and analyze comprehensive demographic data to understand as much as possible about our Jewish community. This information will inform and guide strategic community planning and resource use going forward. Federation convened the community to engage in scenario planning, which helped our Jewish organizations identify important contingencies and organizational decisions for the next year or two while maintaining an ability to stay nimble and shift gears as things were rapidly changing. We also brought together professional working groups to collaborate in responding to our new reality. As long as there are Jews in need, and a community to build, educate and nourish, Federation will be there. These actions wouldn’t be possible without each and every one of you. We surpassed our expectations of helping others because of you. Thank you for being a part of the community and for your commitment to tikkun olam (repairing the world). Together, we came through a most difficult and challenging year with banner results. Together we made things happen and were there to answer the call. Many thanks to all of you for your support, your passion and your tzedakah. We are so grateful. Best,

Dr. Helene Lotman Amanda Morgan President & CEO Board Chair
