Unusual SUNDAY events of cosmic proportions were not unfamiliar to these fishermen and people of the land. During Jesus’ lifetime they had witnessed water being turned into wine, exorcisms, Benefice Prayer Meeting, 6.30pm miraculous healings and then, after his execution, a resurrection! They were also 1st Sunday experiencing the beginnings of transformation within themselves. And now they were (See pew sheet for venues) waiting for something but they had no real idea what it would be. A violent wind suddenly fills the house where Jesus’ disciples are gathered. They start to speak in languages other MONDAY than their own and I am now able to hear everything I need to know about this person Jesus. Early Prayers The miracle of Pentecost is that everybody heard in their own tongue. Everybody St Paul’s Parish Room, 8am understood. The barriers of language were dissolved. Which for me poses the question, what other barriers might need to be dissolved so that our communities and our world will (upper room) flourish? TUESDAY If we allow ourselves to be guided by prejudice, fear, greed, deliberate misunderstanding, Church Youth Group how can we ever resolve those conflicts which beset us? What are we waiting for? This month gives a serious nod to this Hollywood behemoth and in some ways it affects what we see as spirituality. The intrinsic, non-partisan FORCE that is (term time only) described as being a part of and in all creation that is the subject of these movies shapes our Weekday Mass consciousness as humans. This entity that is neither good nor evil but is only defined in its Our Lady’s, 10am use or misuse. Neither active or passive in the lives of people or events but open to everyone. Choir Practice The problem with this way of thinking is that within our own context it is open to spiritual St Paul’s, 7.45pm or material abuse. No, abuse is the wrong word, just plain use is actually better because we need and want things to fulfil our requirements, needs and desires, regardless of the other ST PAUL’S AND HOLY CROSS person. We feel, supposedly, that whatever it is that will make us happy, whether in the Benefice Administrator short or long term, should be ours. It does not matter if it has a detrimental effect on other Machaela Gravestock people, it is our right to be happy and that happiness is paramount. You do not need me to tell you that cannot be right, do you? It cannot be of utmost Monday 2 - 4pm importance that everyone’s rights must be allowed and acted upon no matter what the Thursday 9.30am - 12.30pm consequences, surely? The world would be a place of angst, fear, anger, frustration, and 1.30 - 4.30pm inequality and violence. It would be a world of economic imbalance and political prostitution.
