Snabbprotokoll 2006/07:61, Torsdagen Den 15 Februari-Kl. 12.00

Fredrik Reinfeldt
2014 Press release 03 June 2014 Prime Minister's Office REMINDER: German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Harpsund On Monday and Tuesday 9-10 June, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will host a high-level meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at Harpsund. The European Union needs to improve job creation and growth now that the EU is gradually recovering from the economic crisis. At the same time, the EU is facing institutional changes with a new European Parliament and a new European Commission taking office in the autumn. Sweden, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands are all reform and growth-oriented countries. As far as Sweden is concerned, it will be important to emphasise structural reforms to boost EU competitiveness, strengthen the Single Market, increase trade relations and promote free movement. These issues will be at the centre of the discussions at Harpsund. Germany, the UK and the Netherlands, like Sweden, are on the World Economic Forum's list of the world's ten most competitive countries. It is natural, therefore, for these countries to come together to compare experiences and discuss EU reform. Programme points: Monday 9 June 18.30 Chancellor Merkel, PM Cameron and PM Rutte arrive at Harpsund; outdoor photo opportunity/door step. Tuesday 10 June 10.30 Joint concluding press conference. Possible further photo opportunities will be announced later. Accreditation is required through the MFA International Press Centre. Applications close on 4 June at 18.00. -
Swedish Interests in Times of European Change
Swedish interests in times of European change Speach by Ulf Kristersson, Europahuset, 16th of May 2018 The spoken word applies Ulf Kristersson, Europahuset, 16th of May 2018 First of all, I would like to extend my warmest thanks to Katarina Areskough Mascarenhas for giving me the opportunity to come and say a few words about the development and future of European cooperation, what it means for Sweden, and the role I see our country playing within the EU. *** On the 31st of August 1961 Prime Minister Harold Macmillan announced in the United Kingdom’s House of Commons that the UK would apply for membership of the European Economic Community, or the EEC, the predecessor of the modern EU. History – or rather Charles de Gaulle – stood in Macmillan’s way, however, and it would take the UK more than a decade to finally gain membership. The process saw several vetoes from the French President, and eventually his resignation and death, before the UK became a member. Some things have not changed; every time the UK moves to change its relationship with Europe, its actions have an affect on everyone else, including Sweden. It is the same story repeating itself. Within a few weeks, Sweden’s relationship with the EEC would also be determined in a way that would have a significant impact on the European politics debate in Sweden for the next thirty years. The business community, the Liberal People’s Party, and not least my own party pushed for membership. In the 1962 elections, my predecessor Gunnar Hecksher appeared on election posters bearing the message ‘Yes to Europe – for freedom and security’. -
Address Given by Carl Bildt on Sweden's European Policy
Address given by Carl Bildt on Sweden’s European policy (Bonn, 13 November 1991) Caption: On 13 November 1991, Carl Bildt, Swedish Prime Minister, outlines the reasons why Sweden had previously opted to remain outside the European Communities. He goes on to explain why, given the new geopolitical order in Europe, these reasons are no longer valid in the early 1990s, and he defends the country’s decision to apply for accession to the Communities. This was a watershed event in Swedish history. After decades of self-imposed political isolation, Sweden decided to seek full partnership with the other democratic nations of Western Europe. Taken together with the other changes in our society, I think it is correct to say that Sweden is passing from one era to another. Throughout its history, Sweden has been deeply influenced by developments in the rest of Europe. Indeed, for several centuries we were a continental power. From the Thirty Years War until the end of the Napoleonic era, Sweden had important territorial links to the south and to the east of the Baltic Sea. -
Migration Between Politics, Journalism and PR New Conditions for Power, Citizenship and Democracy?
10.2478/nor-2014-0109 Nordicom Review 35 (2014) Special Issue, pp. 141-153 Migration between Politics, Journalism and PR New Conditions for Power, Citizenship and Democracy? Göran Palm & Håkan Sandström Abstract In this article we present a preliminary theoretical background and some empirical findings concerning a migrating trend between the fields of politics, PR and journalism: one day a political reporter, the next a communication officer; one day a PR consultant, the next a state secretary. To understand contemporary politics one must, we argue, comprehend the convergence between three fields of power holders that together form the realm of politics and communication: elite politicians, elite political reporters and elite communication/PR officers. Together, they form a communication elite that sets the parameters for the public discourse on politics. When politics is produced and constructed in, and through, social networks formed by elite agents from politics, journalism and PR, what does this mean for how democracy is worked out and what does it mean for citizenship in general? Keywords: communication elites, convergence, politics, public relations, journalism, de- mocracy Introduction This text can be seen as a starting point for a research project – Post-politics in Medi- aocracy: the structural transformation of political communication – dealing with the fundamentals of contemporary Swedish politics and democracy. The basic outline of the project concerns social power, power agents and the production and construction of ‘the political’. In focus are the agents that form the realm of politics and political communication, that is, those agents that possess the resources to produce a dominant discourse – a basic knowledge structure – of politics and democracy, but also how this agency is socially and culturally contextualized. -
Intelligence Report DCI Interagency Balkan Task Force 16 August 1995
C0 5 9 5 612 3 Approved for Release CIA s Historical Collections Division AR 70-14 10CT2013 Intelligence Report DCI Interagency Balkan Task Force 16 August 1995 Serbia's Milosevic: Still on the Negotiating Track Serbian PresidentMilosevic appears determined to attempt to conclude a negotiated settlement, despite the Krajina Serb defeat in UN Sectors North and South in Croatia, and accusations of betrayal by Serb refugeesflowing out of Croatia into Serbia. e Various reporting indicates Milosevic remains motivated by the desire to terminate UN-imposed sanctions on his regime and to use a negotiated settlement to legitimize and lock in remaining Serb territorial gains in Bosnia and perhaps in Croatia's Sector East. Continued Croatian Army advances into Bosnia or an attack against Sector East, will however, severely limit Milosevic's options and ossibly trigger direct Yugoslav Army (VJ) intervention into the conflict. Belgrade's Objectives Milosevic's decision to not contest the Croatian takeover of the Krajina Serb- populated UN Sectors North and South, along with Belgrade's strong criticism of Krajina and Bosnian Serb leaders, indicates that Milosevic is attempting to consolidate his political control over a future, more compact greater Serbia that will include parts of Bosnia and perhaps Croatia. Milosevic probably was never dead set on controlling all of the territory carved out by the Serbs in Croatia and Bosnia since 1991. " In 1993 Belgrade was prepared to give up most of the Serb-occupied areas of Croatia to Zagreb to secure the Posavina corridor hetween Siia and western Bosni C05956123 S erer Milosevic's overriding objective is to stay in power. -
