National Projects

David & Margaret Youth and Family Services, LaVerne, CA $10,000.00 Funds will be used to expand the My Life, My Choice program, which raises awareness and reduces the risk of commercial and sexual exploitation of children.

YWCA National Capital Area, Washington, DC $10,000.00 Funds will support the Fighting Back pilot program which will work to combat domestic sex trafficking of minors and equip teens to protect themselves against predators and to prevent them from falling victim to local sex trafficking crimes.

International Projects

United Methodist Church Conference, Freetown, Sierra Leone $10,000.00 Funds will be used to improve the health of adolescent girls in the urban slums of the Erode District by educating them on health and hygiene, preventing early-age marriages, and reducing teenage pregnancies.

BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH - 2014

National Projects

David & Margaret Youth and Family Services, LaVerne, CA $10,000.00 Funds will be used to offer Ending the Game (ETG) to clients in the on-campus Residential Program and school, and local public schools in Pomona. The ETG curriculum is focused on freeing commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) victims from the mind control (or “the game”) and mental manipulation they may have endured while being trafficked.

Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST), Los Angeles, CA $10,000.00 Funds will be used to enable CAST to conduct outreach and collaborate with community stakeholders to build awareness and improve identification and treatment of trafficked minors; to establish and pilot a coordinated protocol for identifying and serving trafficked minors; and to provide social and legal services and legal advocacy directly through more than sixty specialized, trained, and vetted referral partners.

Courtney’s House, Washington, DC $10,000.00 Funds will be used to strengthen the Drop-In Center program, where Courtney’s House provides a safe environment for girls and boys who are survivors of domestic sex trafficking can receive trauma counseling and case management services, attend support groups, participate in group activities, receive mentoring and tutoring, work on homework, or just spend free time.

Friendly Center, Toledo, OH $10,000.00 Funds will be used to facilitate the creation and implementation of a communication network that will coordinate the efforts of the youth human trafficking stakeholder organizations in northwest Ohio. It will fund a gap analysis, which will provide information to help stakeholders better identify youth at risk and victims of human trafficking.

StreetLightUSA, Peoria, AZ $10,000.00 Funds will be used to purchase contract services for group sessions led by adult trafficking survivors for StreetLightUSA residents. This is just one of several therapeutic programs offered; others include animal- and art-therapy, as well as individual and group counseling.

Wesley-Rankin Community Center, Dallas, TX $10,000.00 Funds will be used to operate, promote, and expand programming that provides education and support services to prevent human trafficking, child slavery, and sexual exploitation.

International Projects

Hagar International, Hanoi, Vietnam $10,000.00 Funds will be used to provide support for thirty clients who are victims of human trafficking to start their journey of healing (fifteen of these clients are under 18 years old). The services provided include safe shelter, trauma counseling and psychological support, medical and legal support, and individualized case management.

Georgian Union of Educators “Lampari,” Tbilisi, Georgia $10,000.00 Funds will be used to raise awareness among children and adolescents about all forms of trafficking. Efforts will also include human rights education and conflict resolution.

Bethlehem Center, Jackson, MS $20,000.00 Funds will be used to replace flooring in several areas of the center.

Bidwell Riverside Center, Des Moines, IA $13,000.00 Funds will be used to help finish and replace flooring; replace gutters and downspouts (which has contributed to damage of a classroom); and build a dumpster enclosure (remedy a code violation).

Community Development for All People, Columbus, OH $20,000.00 Funds will be used to help replace fifty-one windows with energy-efficient windows and replace an auxiliary staircase/fire escape (code violation).

Cornerstone Family Ministries, Tampa, FL $20,000.00 Funds will be used to help replace air-conditioning in the infant-toddler building (code issue); renovate bathrooms; and renovate main kitchen (code issue).

Epworth Children and Family Services, St. Louis, MO $10,000.00 Funds will be used to help replace old windows with energy-efficient windows.

Friendly Center, Toledo, OH $15,000.00 Funds will be used to help renovate restrooms, which will make them ADA-compliant and energy- efficient.

Gum Moon Women’s Residence, San Francisco, CA $25,000.00 Funds will be used to install an energy-efficient hot water boiler and a new storage tank.

Hattie B. Cooper Community Center, Roxbury, MA $12,000.00 Funds will be used to purchase energy-efficient kitchen appliances, including two commercial refrigerators and a commercial dishwasher.

Henderson Settlement, Frakes, KY $11,000.00 Funds will be used to replace windows in the gym with energy-efficient windows.

Houchen Community Center, El Paso, TX $15,000.00 Funds will be used to remove carpet flooring in the gym, clean and seal the cement floor, and paint basketball lines.

Moore Community House, Biloxi, MS $15,000.00 Funds will be used to help insulate and weatherize the main site, as well as repair the frames and purchase storm covers for the stained glass windows.

The Neighborhood Center, Camden, NJ $11,000.00 Funds will be used to help insulate and weatherize the gym/multipurpose room.

Scott’s Run Settlement House, Osage, WV $17,000.00 Funds will be used to replace old windows and several doors with energy-efficient windows and doors.

Spofford Home, Kansas City, MO $18,000.00 Funds will be used to replace original single pane windows with energy-efficient windows.

Susanna Wesley Family Learning Center, East Prairie, MO $20,000.00 Funds will be used to help replace a deteriorating brick wall (code issue) and install an energy- efficient heating and cooling system.

Tacoma Community House, Tacoma, WA $10,000.00 Funds will be used to help retrofit the outdated fluorescent lighting system with a higher energy- efficient LED system.

United Community Centers, Birmingham, AL $25,000.00 Funds will be used to repair and rehabilitate the Riley Center. A leaking roof, rotting exterior walls, and a rotting floor will all be replaced or repaired.

United Community Centers, Fort Worth, TX $15,000.00 Funds will be used to install an energy-efficient white (cool) roof at the new Wesley Center.

United Methodist Community House, Grand Rapids, MI $20,000.00 Funds will be used to support the cost of renovations and improvements needed to maintain compliance with community partners and licensing standards. Work includes the replacement of the roof, windows, furnace, water heater, carpet, and light fixtures, as well as new electrical wiring.

United Methodist Community Center, Youngstown, OH $4,000.00 Funds will be used to purchase an energy-efficient freezer and refrigerator.

United Methodist Neighborhood Centers (The Beth), Chattanooga, TN $18,000.00 Funds will be used to install a perimeter fence which will allow use of the full property and ensure the safety of children.

Vashti Center, Thomasville, GA $19,000.00 Funds will be used to renovate bathrooms, repair chapel walls, replace wood columns, and repair the parking lot.

Wesley Community Center, Dayton, OH $16,000.00 Funds will be used to install energy-efficient windows, and remove five dead trees that are a hazard and plant new ones.

Wesley Community Center, Houston, TX $15,000.00 Funds will be used to help replace the HVAC with energy-efficient units.

Wesley Community Centers of Savannah, Savannah, GA $25,000.00 Funds will be used to replace an air conditioner unit at the Women’s Center and repair roofs at the Women’s Center and the administration building. Wesley House Community Center, Knoxville, TN $25,000.00 Funds will be used to renovate the restrooms, including replacing the windows and installing automatic faucets (to save water).

International Projects

Acción Médica Cristiana, Managua, Nicaragua $25,000.00 Funds will be used to help rehabilitate the Tasba Pri Women’s House training center and complete the construction of the central office.

Camp Crystal, Voronezh, Russia $16,000.00 Funds will be used to repair the canteen building and replace the kitchen equipment in order to meet sanitary regulations.

Decker Memorial Foundation, Manila, Philippines $25,000.00 Funds will be used to help make repairs and renovations to the Decker House (home for retired deaconesses), including upgrades to the bathrooms and electrical system.

Fairfield Children’s Home, Mutare, Zimbabwe $25,000.00 Funds will be used to help drill a borehole and construct a tank for clean drinking water.

Haitian Artisans for Peace International, La Vallée-de-Jacmel, Mizak, Haiti $25,000.00 Funds will be used to help complete renovations to a “green” facility that will improve working conditions, including upgrading bathrooms and installing insulation, tile floors and paint.

Harris Memorial , Taytay, Rizal, Philippines $25,000.00 Funds will be used to help renovate the college dormitory, including plumbing, electrical and metal work, exterior and interior painting, as well as work on the windows, ceilings, and wall partitions.

Kapatiran-Kaunlaran Foundation, Manila, Philippines $25,000.00 Funds will be used to help with the total renovation and upgrading of the men’s wing in the Hugh Wilson Hall Main Building, including replacing termite-infested floors, walls, and ceiling and renovating the bathrooms.

Murewa Day Care Center, Murewa, Zimbabwe $25,000.00 Funds will be used to build a dining hall and kitchen so that children can eat in a clean environment. Presently, food is prepared in a shed.

Mutambara Central Primary School, Chimanimani, Zimbabwe $21,000.00 Funds will be used to help replace a roof and add ventilation for a seven-classroom block.

Nyadire United Methodist Mission Hospital, Mutoko, Zimbabwe $25,000.00 Funds will be used to install a solar-power backup system, which will provide lighting for the maternity ward, neonatal unit, and blood bank.

Old Mutare Hospital, Mutare, Zimbabwe $22,000.00 Funds will be used to install a solar-power backup system, which will provide lighting for the maternity ward and laboratory.

Ons Plek Projects, Cape Town, South Africa $24,000.00 Funds will be used to help “green” the building by installing insulation, solar heating, and carpeting, as well as adding a fence for safety.

Tbilisi Youth House Foundation, Tbilisi, Georgia $25,000.00 Funds will be used to help renovate the organizational building, including replacing the roof, heating system, and windows.

Susannah Wesley Education and Health Care Center, Morogoro, Tanzania $6,000.00 Funds will be used to help finish the construction of a health center and pharmacy.
