The author James Murphy is admirably qualified in the field of bartending. I 11 ' Chapter 1 United Kingdom Bartenders Guild Irish Branch 1948,1973 Introduction: The U.K.B.G . was formed in London in June 1934 with Harry L. Craddock of the Savoy Hotel London elected as its first President. Fourteen years later, in 1948 Eddie Clark President U.K.B.G. along with Louis Jammet and eo-founders George Buller and Jack Lee - Royal Hibernian Hotel, Christy O'Connor and Paddy Flahive - Shelbourne Hotel, John O'Farrell - Jammets Restaurant, C. Duggan - Gresham Hotel, Arthur Gordon -South County Hotel and Terry Dunne- Moira Hotel, all came together to form the U .K.B.G. Irish Branch. A historic time for Irish Bartenders as the period of 1948 to 1972, before the current Bartenders Association of Ireland was formed, the U.K.B.G. Irish Branch gave Ireland 13 All Ireland Cocktail Champions, Irish teams which competed in World and European Cocktail Competitions and the traditional inter areas effi ciency competition. These events, coupled with the numerous other functions and meetings helped raise Bartending standards in Ireland and gave the current B.A.l. solid roots to build on in 1972. Listed below are some of the special events which took place during the period 1948-1972 and the famous people behind these events. U.K.B.G.
