The City of Melville will be once again be offering its free tipping week program this spring to allow residents to dispose of yard waste and help keep the city clean. And while the program has been operating for the past few years, new this year will be allowing businesses to also take part in the service. City council approved a recommendation at its May 4 meeting that landfill tipping fees be waved for the week of May 16 to 23 to encourage residents, busi- nesses and schools from Melville to dispose of debris and waste. In previous years, the free tipping week was re- stricted to residents and schools and only yard waste was permitted. This year however, it was decided to extend the program to businesses and include addi- tional material that is eligible. In other words, increase the value proposition for residents and businesses to make the program more meaningful. The ultimate goal is to encourage community enhancement and being really restrictive on a spring clean up initiative does not necessarily add value to that encourage- ment,” said McCullough. “When evaluating any program and its delivery, I encourage finding a balance between efficiency and effectiveness.
