Photo by Amber Kalnas New Secretary at CHS: Kellie Browne in her new role as high school secretary after working at central administration and transportation. Browne ‘hits the ground running’ as the new secretary in the main office

Catasauqua High School has recently added Kelly Browne as a new secretary in the main office. Browne replaced former secretary Sue Moser who resigned in January. After only being in the position for a little over a month, Principal Adam Schnug believes Browne has already had a positive impact on the school’s environment. “Mrs. Browne has hit the ground running and has already become a vital part of our day-to-day operations,” said Schnug. “She is a really fast learner and is willing to help wherever needed.” Browne previously worked for the district in central copying and the transporta- tion department. According to Browne, her favorite part of her new position at CHS is being able to interact with students again. Sophomore Kyra Jackson believes that Browne is a good fit for the job. “I’ve seen her help others very often,” Jackson. “She looks like she enjoys her job and is good at it.” -Contributed by Shaziya Roberts March 20, 2020 Review Page 5

In this review, we will be highlighting some of our favorite local restaurants in Catasauqua. These restaurants are well- known throughout town and are highly rated by residents.

Tony’s Top Cat has been a local eatery for many years and is one of the most popular spots in town to go grab something to eat. This local spot is not easy to find on a map, the restaurant is actually located in a building that looks a lot like a house at 607 Front Street. This restaurant is known for its excellent food and friendly employees. Tony’s menu has a wide range of food from bar food to Mexican cuisine. One of the most popular things that the restaurant is known for is Taco Tuesday. Every Tuesday the restaurant has their tacos at a set price of only one dollar. When ordering your taco, you can get your taco on a soft, hard, or even a fried shell. My personal favorite kind of shell is the fried shell. When eating it, it has a little bit of a crunch, but it is still soft. The taco comes with chicken or beef and toppings like cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. Another delicious item they have on their menu is the steak sandwich. It is made with steak and peppers and placed on a delicious roll. This is one of my favorite items on the menu, and I think it’s one the best dishes they have at the restaurant. The setting in the restaurant is very secluded from the outside streets, which allows the customers to enjoy their meal, and the food is reasonably priced. I give this restaurant a 9/10.

Blondies is a small restaurant that specializes in unique hotdogs and cupcakes. It’s location in Catty is 333 Front Street, however they have three other locations throughout Allentown. Their menu includes twenty-two different variations of toppings which you can put on either a hot dog, or a burger, nine varieties of loaded nachos, ten different comfort foods and “Slovak Food”, and of course a massive variety of their famous cupcakes. These cupcakes are changed frequently and new ones are always being added, so it’s not easy to tell just how many there are, the possibilities are seemingly endless for these talented bakers. Blondies prides itself in selling affordable but quality food, with a very homey environment, welcoming everyone who enters. The owners of the restaurant also work there and are always very generous, kind and welcoming to everyone. It’s my opinion that their hospitality is a large factor in the restaurant’s success. With over 200 consumer reviews the restaurant has an average score of 4.6/5 stars on Google, many reviews mention the hotdogs and cupcakes, as they are the most famous and arguably best two things offered by the restaurant. Reading through reviews, I found that the “ram” hotdog was the most popular among consumers, including mac and cheese, chili, and crushed nacho chips on top. As far as the cupcakes go the only complaint that I commonly saw was too much peanut butter in too many of the cupcake varieties. However, some people might actually consider that a positive! With so many different flavors of cupcakes there’s guaranteed to be one that any person will fall in love with. I give this restaurant an 9/10.

In November 2018, the Catty Corner Neighborhood Pub & Pie reopened following an 18-month closing. The restaurant, located at 301 Mulberry St, Catasauqua, PA 18032, has become one of the biggest hits in the town for family and friends to go enjoy a bite to eat. The Catty Corner is not your typical restaurant. It is open 365 days a year from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 a.m. and has a variety of special events. They recently hosted a Super Bowl party, which consisted of drink and food specials and raffles with prizes. People had the opportunity to win two 50” smart TVs. Back in June 2019, owners Jay and Renee Cimerol held a celebration for the reopening of the Catty Corner. Mulberry Street was blocked off and a performance by the band “Common Bond” was put on for spectators. A street fair was also held where children were able to make colorful chalk drawings. An estimated 1,000 people were in attendance. The Catty Corner is known for their daily specials. Monday is Mexican Monday, Tuesday highlights $6 cheesesteaks, half-price wings can be purchased on Wednesday, clam specials are found on Thursday, Friday and Saturday feature dinner specials, and Sunday boasts the famous $6.95 steak special. The menu consists of a wide range of different foods like pizza, sandwiches, wings, and more. My favorite food from the Catty Corner would be their pizza. I sometimes add sausage as a topping, but I usually just get cheese. As an appetizer I get their mozzarella sticks or macaroni bites. The chicken parm sandwich is also really good as well. I give this restaurant a 10/10.

Students at CHS were surveyed in March about their opinions on the new development that is being built in place of the first nine holes of Willow Brook Golf Course. The overall results, as well as a sampling of some of their responses, are given below.

Survey Statistics All CHS students were emailed the survey and asked to give their opinions on the new development. Here is how 118 out of the 465 students in the school responded. Do you think the new development will benefit the community? “New houses will be built so more people could move in, but I feel like it’s ruining the environment.” Yes -Makenna Delucia, Sophomore No “With the addition of the new community, I feel it will be too much for 28.8% Maybe 24.6% I don’t know our small town.
