On behalf of my entire Board, I would like to welcome all of you to the “Mega India Day Mela 2019", a mega cultural extravaganza celebrating 73rd Anniversary of Indian Independence. Indian Association of Sacramento (IAS) is a nonprofit organi- zation which provides platform to preserve and showcase the rich cultural heritage of India with our fellow citizens in the greater Sacramento area & our next genera- tions. Mega India Day Mela is the biggest event of our community showcasing the diverse and vibrant Indian culture. It started with an audience of 300 in 2005 and now it is attended by thousands of people. This year, we are taking IAS to next level by simul- taneously having thirteen major events on same day and at same venue. While en- joying the cultural show in the main hall that represents over 20 Indian participating organizations, diverse traditions and customs of India, you can taste variety of yum- my Indian foods at food stalls, enjoy shopping at stalls, attend various seminars, par- ticipate in various competitions like Rangoli, Photography, Painting, collage and cooking. IAS is organizing “Indian Consular Camp” in liaison with the office of Indian Consulate General of India, San Francisco to review applications for Indian Visa, OCI Card and Passports for our local community. We're also organizing “IAS Got Talent” contest to showcase various talents and informative seminars like “Women Empow- erment”, “College Admissions” , “California State Jobs” and “Financial wellness” to serve major needs of the community. You can also participate in Parade with col- ored costumes to pay tribute to our freedom fighters and soldiers. We're also or- ganizing blood donation drive where you can donate blood on this auspicious day and help to save lives. IAS has selected "Care for Children" as the charity recipient for this India Day. Please donate generously to support educational needs of under served children. In May 2019, we successfully organized IAS 5K Run/Walk and supported local charity “We Embrace". It was attended by 700 people from diverse communities, which was the highest attendance in history of IAS 5K Run/Walk. We are proud to present a donation check of $5000 to "We Embrace" during India day 2019. We've given away more than $105K to various charities in past 14 years. Charity work is one of our main missions. As we strive for continuous improvement, this year, we have brought innovative ideas and programs. We've started Women Empowerment and Youth Development committees. IAS Women forum in collaboration with OCA, My Sister's house, CRC and Women commission to mark International Women Day in March 2019 was a huge success. Report of issues affecting South Asian Women was compiled to local public officials to bring more awareness of these issues. We also had other success- ful events like MLK walk, IAS/Ekal Holi, IAS Meet and Greet at State Continued... Capitol and IAS 5K Walk/Run. Our sports committee has organized thirteen sports events this year- Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Throw ball, Surya Namaskar, Carom, Chess, Quiz, Rangoli, Cooking, Painting, Photography & Collage with overwhelming participation from the community. We cordially invite you to join our upcoming events "IAS Youth Public speaking & Leadership classes" in late Aug/Early September, IAS Teej in September, Mental health & Suicide prevention forum in October & Folsom Veteran's day Parade in November. We are also trying to collaborate with Cities of Elk Grove and Rocklin to have IAS Diwali events. We have brought several new Indian and Non Indian organi- zations as our collaborating partners. This year, we got sponsorship from very repu- table non profit organizations such as OCA, APAPA and IVACC and we are collabo- rating with them to bring innovative new programs to benefit our community. This year, we have largest make up of IAS board with 40 dedicated and energetic community leaders as board members. I'm very thankful to my board members who have been working tirelessly to organize various events throughout the year. We're not sleeping this year and we're committed to make a big impact in our community. I'm also very thankful to all of you, our sponsors and well wishers for trusting us. Last but not least, I am very thankful to my wife Shipti and my children for allowing me to use my personal time to serve our community. We are always ready to listen to your ideas, concerns, feedback and suggestions so please don't hesitate to contact any of us if you have any questions. Looking forward to meet all of you on August 11th during Mega India day Mela 2019. Please do come to support us and our wonderful community.
