Biodiversity Data Journal 4: e9273. https://doi.org/10.3897/BDJ.4.e9273 Abstract Background The checklist of the ascidian fauna (Tunicata: Ascidiacea) of Greece was compiled within the framework of the Greek Taxon Information System (GTIS), an application of the LifeWatchGreece Research Infrastructure (ESFRI) aiming to produce a complete checklist of species recorded from Greece. This checklist was constructed by updating an existing one with the inclusion of recently published records. All the reported species from Greek waters were taxonomically revised and cross-checked with the Ascidiacea World Database. New information The updated checklist of the class Ascidiacea of Greece comprises 75 species, classified in 33 genera, 12 families, and 3 orders. In total, 8 species have been added to the previous species list (4 Aplousobranchia, 2 Phlebobranchia, and 2 Stolidobranchia). Aplousobranchia was the most speciose order, followed by Stolidobranchia. Most species belonged to the families Didemnidae, Polyclinidae, Pyuridae, Ascidiidae, and Styelidae; these 4 families comprise 76% of the Greek ascidian species richness. ASCIDIANS FROM THE PHILIPPINES AND ADJACENT WATERS. By "Willard G. Van Name, Of the American Museum of Natural History, New York. INTRODUCTION. Although the ascidians of the Malay Archipelago have already been so much studied that it seems unlikely that many of the com- moner and more widely distributed species have escaped discovery, the Philippine Islands form one of the parts of that region that have been but little investigated as far as their ascidian fauna is con- cerned. As a whole the Malay region is remarkably rich in ascidians, both in variety of form and number of individuals, and some 200 species have been recorded from it, but among these supposed species there are undoubtedly many synonyms. Several important expedi- tions that have made collections in the Malay region, the United States Exploring Expedition, the Challenger Expedition, and the Siboga Expedition, extended their operations into the southern part of the Philippine group, and though as a result of their work a con- siderable number of species of ascidians have been described or recorded from Philippine waters, the localities investigated were too few and too near together, and the amount of material too small to give anything approaching a complete view of the ascidian fauna. The collection made by the Albatross Expedition affords for the first time an opportunity for a general and comprehensive study of the ascidians of the Philippines and their vicinity. That the collec- tion falls very far short of containing all the species found there is very evident. Many forms obtained by other expeditions are not contained in it, and much more extensive collecting in the northern part of the group would have been desirable. -

Three coral reef associated cryptic pyurid ascidians such as Pyura curvigona Tokioka, 1950, Herdmania papietensis (Herdman, 1882), Halocynthia spinosa Sluiter, 1905 were found from Andaman and Nicobar Islands as new record to Indian waters. The present paper deals with the taxonomical characteristics and distribution of these three newly recorded stolidobranch ascidians species from Andaman group of islands. I 1l By Teruaki Nishikawa Biological Laboratory, College of General Education, Nagoya University, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya 464-01, Japan With Text-figures 1-9 and Tables 1-4 Abstract The ascidian fauna in the Japan Sea was studied by examination of new material mainly from littoral areas and the type or other available specimens and by a literature survey of previous records. A total of 163 species, including infraspecific taxa, belonging to 50 genera of 14 families were recorded from this sea. Included are descriptions of five new species, proposal of a new replace ment name and many taxonomic amendments. The fauna thus understood has been analyzed zoogeographically mainly in terms of biogeographic elements. Consideration of the results supports in many respects the previous knowledge about the biotic peculiarities of the sea, but also gives some new findings. The Japan Sea is a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean. It is separated nearly wholly from the ocean and maintains the in- and outflows of water mainly through the Straits of Korea (=Chosen), Tsugaru and Soya, scarcely through those of Ma miya ( =Tatarskiy) and Tsushima. In this paper the Japan Sea area is to include these five straits and Mutsu Bay and Cheju ( =Quelpart, Saishu) Island. The Japan Sea has been arousing interests in biogeography and offering the subject of debate about the origin and formation of the marine fauna. -

Periodic surveys have revealed high recruitment and growth rates of this species on floating docks in the Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea, following the annual vertical mixing event. In order to ascertain the length of time taken by H. momus individuals to settle on new artificial substrates, and the pace at which they grow and reach the reproductive stage, we monitored a newly-deployed floating dock for two years following its deployment. The number of individuals and their sizes were recorded weekly in March-June 2013 (spring-early summer), in June-August (summer), and re-visited each spring (April 2014, 2015). -
