Joe R Lansdale Praise for Hap and Leonard: Blood and Lemonade “Blood and Lemonade is the best of Lansdale and the best of Hap and Leonard. As urgent as it is timeless. As fun as it is thoughtful. It haunts you while it kicks your ass. Joe never lets you down, just shows you over and over why he’s the best.” —Jim Mickle, director of Cold in July “A brilliant ‘mosaic’ novel. An amazingly vivid style that feels like Hemingway. Themes that are especially important for our time. With these early adventures of his compelling Hap and Leonard characters, Joe R. Lansdale hits a new high.” —David Morrell, New York Times bestselling author of Murder as a Fine Art “Magnificent storytelling.” —Char’s Horror Corner “Joe Lansdale is our East Texas Hemingway, and here’s another example of what makes him great. In Hap & Leonard: Blood and Lemonade, he carves out beauty with plain words and direct sentences. Some of the stories in this mosaic novel are horrifying, others gritty, sad, thrilling, and funny, but all of them are beautiful. I ate it up.” —Daryl Gregory, author of Spoonbenders and We Are All Completely Fine HapAndLeonardBloodAndLemonade.indb 1 1/20/2017 1:10:50 PM Praise for Hap and Leonard “Seven laid-back adventures, one of them brand new, for “freelance troubleshooter” and good old boy Hap Collins and his gay black Republican partner Leonard Pine. No one currently working the field demonstrates more convincingly and joyously the deep affinity between pulp fiction and the American tall tale.” —Kirkus «“Last seen in the novel Honky Tonk Samurai, Lansdale’s incomparable East Texas crime fighting duo show their chops in this remarkable story collection. Readers can also look forward to the debut of the TV show Hap and Leonard on the Sundance Channel in March.” —Publishers Weekly, starred review “An essential Hap and Leonard addition.” —The Novel Pursuit “. it’s great to have all of these wonderful stories together in one nifty volume.” —Horror Drive-In “A perfect introduction.” —Booklist “East Texas charm, profane wit, and strong characteriza- tion, with enough snappy dialogue to keep a smile on your HapAndLeonardBloodAndLemonade.indb 2 1/20/2017 1:10:50 PM face . excellent entertainment, edge-of-your-seat action one minute, gut-busting humor the next.” —Adventures in Genre Fiction “This collection is crime/pulp fiction at its best and most captivating.” —Risingshadow “If you find yourself on the wrong side of Hap and Leonard, be cautious, because they are quicker than a rattlesnake, and their bite is just as bad. If you find yourself an innocent bystander looking for a great book to read, you’ve come to the right place.” —Killer Nashville “For those new to either Lansdale or the series, this latest collection is an excellent introduction to the kind of trouble these two often find themselves in; all the while exchanging some of the funniest, lovingly antagonistic, and memorial dialogue of any crime series.” —Bookgasm Praise for Joe R. Lansdale’s Hap and Leonard series “Hap and Leonard function as a sort of Holmes and Watson—if Holmes and Watson had had more lusty appetites and less refined educations and spent their lives in East Texas. Not only funny, but also slyly offers HapAndLeonardBloodAndLemonade.indb 3 1/20/2017 1:10:50 PM acute commentary on matters of race, friendship and love in small-town America.” —New York Times “Lansdale reveals the human condition—our darkest secrets and our proudest moments, all within the unlikely confines of an East Texas adventure featuring the two scruffiest protagonists in modern crime fiction.” —Booklist “Hilarious. Addictively scarfable. Lansdale excels at dialogue, especially Hap and Leonard’s lewd insult-a-thons. Two thumbs-up, and pardon the barbecue smears.” —Texas Monthly “Joe R. Lansdale is one of a kind. His Hap and Leonard novels should be read and treasured.” —James Swain, author of Take Down “As usual, the dialogue is deadpan tart and the action extreme but convincing. Lansdale once again proves he’s the East Texas master of redneck noir.” —Publishers Weekly (on Hyenas) Praise for Joe R. Lansdale “Joe Lansdale is a born storyteller.” —Robert Bloch, author of Psycho HapAndLeonardBloodAndLemonade.indb 4 1/20/2017 1:10:50 PM “There’s no bullshit in a Joe Lansdale book. There’s every- thing a good story needs, and nothing it doesn’t.” —Christopher Moore, author of Secondhand Souls “[Joe Lansdale has] a folklorist’s eye for telling detail and a front-porch raconteur’s sense of pace . a considerable literary intelligence at work.” —New York Times Book Review “Joe Lansdale simply must be read.” —Robert Crais, author of the Elvis Cole and Joe Pike novels “Read Joe Lansdale and see the true writer’s gift.” —Andrew Vachss, author of Shockwave “Among the best fiction writers in America today, Joe Lansdale turns on the juice and cuts the damn thing loose. Lone Star Sleuths Bibliography of Texas-based Mystery/Detective Fiction A Bibliography of Texas-based Mystery/Detective Fiction Be sure to check out the new anthology, Lone Star Sleuths, available from the University of Texas Press as part of its Southwestern Writers Collection Book Series. Reflecting the remarkable diversity of the state, Texas-based mysteries extend from the Guadalupe Mountains in the west to the Piney Woods of East Texas. This annotated bibliography, arranged according to different regions of the state, helps map out some reading trails for mystery fans. We sought to provide a comprehensive list of mystery authors, although not every title published by each author is included. This list is not intended to provide an exhaustive listing of each book published by each author. Instead, it is intended to simply point the Central Texas way towards further exploration by readers. East Texas This bibliography was originally compiled for an exhibit at the Southwestern Writers Collection, Texas State University, in 2003-2004. It was prepared by Steve Davis, North Texas Assistant Curator of the Southwestern Writers Collection, and by Dr. Rollo K. Newsom, Professor Emeritus at Texas State. Along with Bill Cunningham, Davis and Newsom are South Texas co-editors of Lone Star Sleuths. West Texas This bibliography is not currently being updated, but the compilers do welcome Other Texas Mysteries corrections, additions, elaborations, and other feedback.

Title: Hap and Leonard — Joining the adventure is Hap's unlikely buddy Leonard Pine, an openly gay black Vietnam War vet with a bad temper and little use for Trudy's feminine wiles. Soon enough the simple get-rich-quick scheme snowballs into bloody mayhem. My spoilers are super minor, nothing that will jeopardize your viewing pleasure. This show keeps getting better and better. I have just finished watching the 4th episode and there is something so quirky about it. It is supposed to take place in the 80's thereabouts and centers around crime - trying to locate stolen money and dealing with the results. It is set in Texas with the 2 main characters wearing cowboy boots and hats, giving it a westernish vibe. But then you throw in Hap and Leonard spandex wearing, spike-haired, blue eye-shadowed, 80's murderous Hap and Leonard and the show becomes a little more off kiltered, but in an entirely good way.

Lansdale at his best, which is as good as it getsBy Timothy HallinanJoe R. Lansdale is the writer I want most to meet. He has every tool a skillful writer needs, but more importantly, he has the talent that makes a great writer -- the ability to see inside people and present them, whole and breathing (often, in this book, panting) on the page. From its hilarious, unquotable first line through the greatest depiction of a hurricane I've ever read, this is Lansdale at his best, which it to say on a par with the very best living American writers. I haven't even mentioned that he can write practically anything, from "serious" novels to "Bubba Ho- tep" and everything in between (including sci-fi, horror, and westerns) with total conviction and great flair. Try "Paradise Sky" if you like westerns or the Hap and Leonard books if you like thrillers, or "Edge of Dark Water" if you'd like a modern take on "Huckleberry Finn." But if you're not reading Lansdale, you're cheating yourself. (And the way he writes the storm in this book is on a par with the great James Lee Burk in "The Tin Roof Blowdown."0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.

Texas Institute of Letters October/November/December 2014 Newsletter Website: http://www.texasinstituteofletters.org/ Lawrence Wright to be honored at TIL’s spring meeting in Houston as winner of Lon Tinkle Award At the fall meeting in Austin of TIL’s councilors and former presidents, Lawrence Wright was chosen as the 2015 winner of the Lon Tinkle Award for Lifetime Achievement. It will be presented at the April 11 awards banquet at the Hilton Hotel on the campus of the University of Houston. This award is given annually to recognize a distinguished writer whose career in letters is associated with the state. Last year’s winner of the Lon Tinkle Award, Jan Reid, has written the beautiful essay below about Larry Wright. It should be noted that since Jan’s essay, which he wrote only earlier this month, Larry’s recent book, Thirteen Days in September: Carter, Begin, and Sadat at Camp David, has been named one of the 10 best non-fiction books of the year by the New York Times and Publishers Weekly, and Kirkus Reviews lists it as one of the best non-fiction works of 2014. Here’s Jan’s essay about Larry: “Watergate was such a joy. For nearly two years no one spoke of anything else. It was a national obsession, a slow-moving coup d’etat. Because it was such a spectacle and lasted so long, Watergate became as much a part of my life as a war or an economic depression or some other ongoing national calamity, and yet I experienced it not as disaster but as theater.

  • L'ultima Caccia
