  • Letter from the President
d174785_text_d174785_text 2/24/2017 8:09 AM Page 1 1 Letter from the President April, 2017: Since its beginning over 30 years ago, PBATS has been working toward a goal of being the most proficient group of athletic train- ers in the world. We are not driven by a sense of personal ag- grandizement or pride, but rather by an understanding of our obligation to the health of our players and our teams. In 2017, PBATS and its members are looked upon as an integral part of the fabric of the game of baseball, and just as importantly as trusted advisors to the athletes in our care. Over the years, PBATS has worked hard to share its expertise beyond the club- house and ballpark, and we are proud to have internships that reach other countries and programs that address some of the most difficult health issues right here at home. In 2016, PBATS continued to promote its newest program to the American people. This program called “Ability Transcends Challenges” or ATC, is designed to educate the American people about the role that people with disabilities have played throughout baseball’s history, while speaking to the important lessons of inclusion and the need to harness this valuable source of American manpower. Our ultimate goal is to do nothing less than change America’s perception about the value of people with disabilities, by demonstrating that truth using baseball. In 2016, the ATC program spokespeople, Jim Abbott and Curtis Pride, continued to share their messages with the American people and appeared in ATC public service announcements, advertisements, ATC program events, and the information has been seen across the United States.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Thaddeus Krzus Broadcasting and Media Relations Manager Florida Fire Frogs Phone (321) 697-3159 [email protected] www.floridafirefrogs.com Florida Crushes Charlotte’s Dreams with Come-From-Behind Victory 5-2 win knocks Stone Crabs out of playoff contention on final day of 2018 PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (Sept. 2, 2018) – The Florida Fire Frogs may have been eliminated from postseason contention, but Sunday’s contest against the Charlotte Stone Crabs had the feel of a playoff game for both teams to finish off the 2018 season. A win for Charlotte (40-29, 74-62) would have propelled the Tampa Bay Rays affiliate into the postseason against the Palm Beach Cardinals (STL), regardless of the outcome of the Fort Myers Miracle (MIN) matchup against the Clearwater Threshers (PHI). A loss, however, would make things a little tighter at the top of the South division. The Stone Crabs were the first to crack through the scoreboard on Sunday, benefiting from a defensive miscue by the left side of the infield from the Fire Frogs. Carl Chester popped up an 0-1 pitch from Filyer Sanchez to the left side, but neither CJ Alexander nor Riley Delgado could make the play, leading to the one-out base runner. Jake Fraley singled the runner to third, while taking second on the play, and Rene Pinto drove home the first run of the game with a single to center. Russ Olive’s sacrifice fly to center scored Fraley to put the Fire Frogs in a two-run hole. Brian Shaffer carried a no-hit bid through six frames, and record the first two outs of the seventh before finally making a mistake.

We are not driven by a sense of per- sonal aggrandizement or pride, but rather by an understanding of our obligation to the health of our players and our teams. In 2018, PBATS and its members are looked upon as an integral part of the fabric of the game of baseball, and just as importantly as trusted advisors to the athletes in our care. Over the years, PBATS has worked hard to share its expertise beyond the club- house and ballpark, and we are proud to have internships that reach other countries and programs that address some of the most difficult health and inclusion issues in the country.
