Tips

Public transportation in Stockholm comprises buses, metro, commuter trains, one tram line and boat traffic. All public transportation is managed by SL. Information on timetables and prices can be obtained here. It might be a good idea to purchase a blue SL-Access card that can be used on any carrier in the network. The card can be bought for 25 SEK in the SL Center at the Central Station, at the airport or in Pressbyrå shops. Once bought, the card can be charged (reskassa) conveniently with your bank card at vending machines in every metro station, the airport and the central station. It’s a lot cheaper than buying single paper tickets at the vending machines (25 SEK for a single trip with the card instead of 36 SEK). The card is non-refundable but no personal information is saved on the card. When you leave Stockholm, you could give the card to anyone (e.g. tourists at the airport) or leave them with us at KTH so that we can reuse the cards for other visitors.
