Happy Father’s Day!!! Parish Bulletin for June 14th-15th, 2014 Page 3 June 15th, 2014 - The Most Holy Trinity From Fr. Suresh

TODAY’S READINGS: First Reading: Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9 Psalm: Daniel 3:52, 53, 54, 55 Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 Gospel: John 3:16-18

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: “Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; to God who is, who was, and who is to come.” - Revelation 1:8

THE MOST HOLY TRINITY... GOD WANTS TO SAVE US “FOR” GOOD THINGS! "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him." God wants us to be saved. To be saved from sin and the pain, misery, and despair that come with it. But God wants to do more than save us "from" bad things. God also wants to save us "for" good things. To save us for heaven, for holiness, for the happiness that doesn't fade away. God wants what's best for us. That's why he sent his Son. He didn't send a servant or a slave. He didn't send a messenger or a minion. He sent part of himself, his own Son, the second person of the Trinity. This was obviously a mission of great love. As we hear in today's reading, God gave his only Son, Jesus, "so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life." To believe in Jesus is to accept two radical claims of Christianity. First, that God is the Trinity, three-persons-in-one-God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And second, that God loved us enough to become One of us through his incarnation. We refer to these things as "mysteries of the faith" because they aren't easy to explain or understand. But through faith, we can accept them and live according to them. In this day and age, we are often discouraged from being people of faith. We are expected to accept scientific facts and figures, but when it comes to spiritual mysteries like the Incarnation or the Trinity, our culture tends to be sceptical. As Christians, we are called to bear witness to this culture. Through our faith, we can encourage others to accept that these mysteries are not fantasies. God has really sent his Son to save the world! Let us do our part to help "the world" to believe it's true. ©2014 Liturgical Publications Inc. Happy Father’s Day to all of the fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, and adopted fathers! Wishing you all a wonderful week! Fr. Suresh, SAC

Happy Father’s Day!!! Parish Bulletin for June 14th-15th, 2014 Page 8 PARISH NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS ANNUAL ROSARY RELAY FOR PRIESTS — FRIDAY, JUNE 27 This world-wide prayer event has been fully endorsed by . It will take place

at 3:00 pm local time on Friday, June 27th.

We will be praying the Luminous Mysteries at St. Ignatius (Grand Cayman) and at Stella Maris (Cayman Brac). If you are unable to get to one of the churches at that hour, simply pray the Rosary wherever you are!

"Today ... I am handing you the Rosary beads. Through prayer and meditation on the mysteries, Mary leads you safely towards her Son! Do not be ashamed to recite the Rosary alone, while you walk along the streets to school, to the university or to work, or as you commute by public transport. Adopt the habit of reciting it among yourselves, in your groups, movements and associations. Do not hesi- tate to suggest that it be recited at home ... because it rekindles and strengthens the bonds between family members. This prayer will help you to be strong in your faith, constant in charity, joyful and persevering in hope." - Pope John Paul II, 8 March 2003

Pope John Paul II's Apostolic Letter, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, introduced the Luminous Mysteries (Mysteries of Light) in October 2002. They focus on the public ministry of Jesus Christ:

The Baptism in the Jordan "Here, as Christ descends into the waters, the innocent one who became 'sin' for our sake (cf. 2Cor 5:21), the heavens open wide and the voice of the Father declares him the beloved Son (cf. Mt 3:17 and parallels), while the Spirit descends on him to invest him with the mission which he is to carry out."

The Wedding at Cana "The first of the signs, given at Cana (cf. Jn 2:1-12), when Christ changes water into wine and opens the hearts of the disciples to faith, thanks to the intervention of Mary, the first among believers."

The Proclamation of the Kingdom "The preaching by which Jesus proclaims the coming of the Kingdom of God, calls to conversion (cf. Mk 1:15) and forgives the sins of all who draw near to him in humble trust (cf. Mk 2:3-13; Lk 7:47-48): the inauguration of that ministry of mercy which he continues to exercise until the end of the world, particularly through the Sacrament of Reconciliation which he has entrusted to his Church (cf. Jn 20:22-23)."

The Transfiguration "The mystery of light par excellence is the Transfiguration, traditionally believed to have taken place on Mount Tabor. The glory of the Godhead shines forth from the face of Christ as the Father commands the astonished Apostles to 'listen to him' (cf. Lk 9:35 and parallels) and to prepare to experience with him the agony of the Passion, so as to come with him to the joy of the Resurrection and a life transfigured by the Holy Spirit."

The Institution of the Eucharist "Christ offers his body and blood as food under the signs of bread and wine, and testifies 'to the end' his love for humanity (Jn 13:1), for whose salvation he will offer himself in sacrifice."

Ward, Patrick We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; Webb, Arthur May they find the wisdom to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice. Webb, Carl We pray for those fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; Webb, Oscar May they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow. Webb, Vernon We pray for god-fathers and for those men who are not fathers but still Wheaton, George mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice. Wight, Derek We remember those fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer Wight, Oscar with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen.
