Along with his cynical and under-motivated co-workers, he labors fruitlessly under the bone-headed leadership of the Pointy-Haired Boss. Occasionally Dogbert, Dilbert's super-intelligent dog, Dilbert Dilbert caught up in another wild money-making scheme, to Dilbert's regret. Written by Mike Konczewski. Before the review, a brief plot summary: Dilbert Dilbert a skilled and somewhat slow-witted Dilbert living in an insane world. Everyone is either a genious or a moron. He lives with Dilmom, who is more advanced in Dilbert then he is, Ratbert, an optomist rodent who longs to Dilbert loved, and Dogbert, a cynical, arrogant canine with a dream of ruling the world. Every day is garbage day, Dilbert the garbage man Dilbert the world's smartest. At work, where the name constantly changes from Path-Way to E-Tech to Path-E-Tech pathetiche toils away in his cubicle Dilbert a clueless pointy-haired boss, accompanied by the Dilbert and sarcastic Wally and Dilbert and powerful Alice. With clever humour, the show tells zany stories about how Dilbert tackles stock market problems, corporate insanity, junkie dwarfs, and realligned satellites. Scott Adams has been writing the "Dilbert" comic strip since He has since then added several colorful characters, and finally, with the help of Larry Miller, he brought it to the small screen. Adams and Miller provided it with it's only good series ever. The animation is clever and looks exactly like it was lifted from the comic books, except now Dilbert has a mouth. Oh, but when any of the characters' mouths are closed, they vanish. To Dilbert, this is better then either of Matt Groening's overrated series. Dilbert is not a beer-swilling overweight idiot. He is Dilbert ordinary person in a twisted world- something we can all relate to. Plus Dilbert jokes are funny. Throughout the entire episode the plot is strung with wit Dilbert charm. Some of the jokes, in fact, aren't even funny. But it's Dilbert the way the characters say them that splits your sides. Daniel Stern Marv in the Dilbert two "Home Alone" films gives the title Dilbert a slightly nasal and questioning voice. Gordon Hunt father of popular actress Helen Hunt provides Wally with a thick nasal and sarcastic voice. Kathy Griffin "Suddenly Dilbert lends her voice to Alice, an angry, teeth-gritted voice. Chris Elliot "Osmosis Jones" was originally to be thrown Dilbert the cast because his voice was so similair to Stern's, yet he does an awesome job at giving Dogbert an arrogant and calm demonaur. The guest appearances are great. Billy West, Dilbert Tress MacNeille, guests throughout, only as the same character, a marketing guy. Stephen Hawking plays himself in Dilbert Informercial", in which the Gruntmaster a product named, designed and manufactured throughout the first season is tested in Texas and creates a black hole. Jason Alexander "Bob Patterson" appears throughout as Dilbert. Buck Henry suprises Dilbert fans as Dadbert, who has been at the "all-you-can- eat" cafe Dilbert a mall resteraunt sinceand Jeri Ryan cameos in Dilbert episode as a Seven of Nine Alarm Clock. Wayne Knight is a security guard. Gilbert Gottfried is a troll. Unfortunatley, UPN Dilbert yet another mistake. Instead of keeping their only good show, they moved it to a horrible time slot which soon got it cancelled. Some of the Dilbert descriptions are hilarious. Dilbert fans will recognize the small, muddy country of Elbonia in "Elbonian Dilbert and "Hunger". In another, the company is overrun by downsized literally employees hooked on dry erase markers. When he drinks from the boss' cup, Dilbert loses "the knack" and throws all the satellites out of orbit, throwing Dilbert world back into medevil times. Adams, don't let it get to you. Just take the show to Comedy or Fox. Then it'll soar. Looking for some great streaming picks? Check out some Dilbert the IMDb editors' favorites movies and shows to round out your Watchlist. • Dilbert and Dogbert in the Information Age 79
DILBERT AND DOGBERT IN THE INFORMATION AGE 79 Dilbert and Dogbert in the Information Age: Productivity, Corporate Culture, and Comic Art Karen Langlois California State Polytechnic University, Pomona In the cartoon strip of the same name, Dilbert, an engineer, contends with the complexities and challenges of technological change and corporate restruc- turing. The cartoon, a satire on modern corporate culture, criticizes the pervasive influence of the business efficiency movement known as Total Quality Management. The issue of productivity in the post-modern age holds particular relevance for educators at a time when institutions of higher learning seek to restructure themselves in the image of the modern corporation. Introduction In the past decade the cartoon strip Dilbert has become a phenomenon of popular culture. Created by cartoonist Scott Adams, it has become the fastest growing comic strip in America. Dilbert, the cartoon’s protagonist, is a naive, introverted engineer, toiling in the wasteland of American bureaucracy. His sardonic pet, Dogbert, is employed as a part-time management consultant. For the modern employee Dilbert and Dogbert have achieved the status of cultural icons. Confronted with the information revolution of the nineties, a transformation greater in scope than the industrial revolution, these new American (anti)heroes contend with the complexities and challenges of technological change and corporate restructuring. The identification of the public with the plight of the cartoon characters is evidenced by the craze for Dilbert and Dogbert merchandise. In addition to a television show and best selling books, Dilbert mania has created a market for Dilbert and Dogbert apparel, desk art, and dolls.

COMMENTS THE TECHNICALLY SKILLED WORKER AND THE CORPORATION: DAGWOOD, DILBERT AND BEYOND Corporate America finds itself in a sea of change. This change is the result of many factors including rapid technologi- cal developments so revolutionary that some have suggested that a third industrial revolution, the Age of Informatics, is at hand.1 Dynamic and profound changes in corporate organiza- tions abound as a result of the numerous leveraged buyouts of the 1980s and globalization of the world economy. A special component of this new technical age is human capital. No longer simply a pair of hands to do a task, human capital has evolved into a creative source of ideas and thought, the principal raw material for creating the information product. The increasing need for highly skilled workers, coupled with a decrease in opportunities for the marginally skilled employees, presents significant challenges not only to businesses, but also to society in general.

  • “Don't Be a Dilbert”: Transmedia Storytelling As Technical
corrected 7/15/20 Applied Research “Don’t Be a Dilbert”: Transmedia Storytelling as Technical Communication during and after World War II By Edward A. Malone Abstract Purpose: My goal was to determine whether the U.S. Navy’s “Don’t Be a Dilbert” aviation safety campaign during World War II was a fully developed example of transmedia storytelling and whether it could be used as an illustration of transmedia storytelling in technical communication. Method: I located and gathered primary sources in the Navy’s safety campaign from archives, museums, and military and civilian publications, and then analyzed these artifacts according to the definition and attributes of transmedia storytelling in Jenkins (2007, 2011). Results: From my analysis, I found that the Navy’s use of the Dilbert myth combined multimodality with radical intertextuality in order to foster additive comprehension; it also employed a robust set of transmedia storytelling techniques. Conclusion: Tese findings suggest that transmedia storytelling was used to communicate technical information before the digital age and that the Navy’s Dilbert campaign is a potentially useful historical example for illustrating transmedia storytelling techniques. Keywords: transmedia storytelling, participatory culture, safety education, cartoon characters, history of technical communication Practitioner’s • Examines the role of transmedia communication students to Takeaway: storytelling in a high-stakes training transmedia storytelling program in which entertainment • Contributes to an understanding of supported education the history of transmedia storytelling • Provides a potential pedagogical in technical communication tool for introducing technical Volume 66, Number 3, August 2019 l Technical Communication 209 Applied Research "Don't Be a Dilbert" Introduction Most people are familiar with Dilbert, the main character in Scott Adams’ comic strip about an engineer who, in some ways, epitomizes the white- collar worker in corporate America.
