Agent Authorization AGENT AUTHORIZATION Date TO: Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association P. O. Box 12300 Alexandria, LA 71315–2300 I have this day appointed to act for me as my agent in the 2014 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sale. Said appointee, as my duly appointed and authorized agent, shall have full power and authority to act for me in all matters in connection with or arising out of the sale or purchase of horses at said sale, and is authorized to execute any and all documents in connection therewith, and to grant Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association a security interest in any horses purchased, to receive and disburse any and all funds and to do all things incidental to and in furtherance of the sale or purchase of horses in my behalf. I agree to pay for all animals purchased by said agent in my behalf. This agency is revocable only in writing. Name (please print) Address City, State, Zip Code Phone ( _____ ) Subscribed and sworn to before me on this day of ,20 Notary Public County, My Commission Expires: ABOUT THE CATALOG Pedigree and racing information contained in this catalog is, by its nature, based on dated material and is subject to change on a daily basis. Research materials for this catalog were provided by the American Quarter Horse Association and/or the Jockey Club Information Service as of May 1, 2014 and includes racing results and performance information on file as of that date. In some cases, races run immediately preceding the above date are not included due to the normal data processing time interval. Due to the limitations of time and space, the information contained on the catalog page regarding any individual is merely a synopsis of that animal's pedigree, family, and race record, and is presented herein based on tradional cataloging standards as representational of that individual. In addition, this catalog includes some information not normally provided under traditional cataloging standards for Quarter Horses, as well as performance of Thoroughbreds that is at variance with the cataloging standards approved by the North American Subcommittee of the International Cataloguing Standards Committee. These additions, illuminations, and variations include: 1. STAKES QUALIFYING: Horses that are finalist in Graded Stakes Races as designated by the American Quarter Horse Association but failed to finish first, second or third are, when space permits noted so with reference to the name and grade of the stakes race, in the form of [Fnl. All American F.–G1], if a horse qualified for a stakes race, but was unable to compete in the finals for what ever reason, will be noted so as [Qlf. All American F.–G1]. 2. THOROUGHBRED BLACK TYPE: Stakes races run after January 1, 1986 with added–money of less than $15,000 are not granted "black–type" in those Thoroughbred catalogs conforming the rules of the International Cataloguing Standards Committee. That value was raised to $20,000 on January 1, 1989, and to $25,000 on January 1, 1990. In 1985 only, those races were designated with an "–N" following the race name. For the purposes of this Quarter Horse catalog, however, Thoroughbred that finished first, second or third in a stakes race, regardless of the added–money value, have been granted black–type. Races with a value of more than $50,000–added are designated "–L", while raced with a added–money value of from $15,000 to $50,000 are designated "–O". The "–O" designation was dropped after 1985. ABOUT THE CATALOG 3. GRADED STAKES: The American Quarter Horse Association has since 1982 granted a small number of the most prestigious and valuable races the designation Graded Stakes Race, and appended the appropriate notation to the name of the race. The highest level of Graded Stakes Race is signified by "–G1" following the race name, the second level "–G2", and the third level "–G3". Grading of races was not retroactive, therefore no such designation appears on those races prior to 1982. 4. RESTRICTED RACES: Stakes races restricted to runners defined by the conditions of the race (i.e. state-bred races, stallion progeny races, races sponsored by auction companies) are designated by the American Quarter Horse Association and The Jockey Club with an "–R" following the race name. 5. TRACK RECORDS: Horses that have established a new track or course record, or equaled an existing track or course record, have the notation Ntr (New Track Record), Ncr (New Course Record), Etr (Equaled Track Record), or Ecr Equaled Course Record), followed by in most cases the three–letter designation for the race track and the distance. Course records refer to turf courses. Information as to races, race results and/or earnings by Quarter Horses was obtained from result charts published by the Racing Department of the American Quarter Horse Association, copyright owner of said charts. Information as to races, race results and/or earnings by Thoroughbred horses was obtained from results charts published by The Daily Racing Form, copyright the American Quarter Horse Association and The Jockey Club. Any reproduction thereof is prohibited without the express written consent of the copyright holders. While information contained herein is believed to be accurate and every effort is made by all parties to assure accuracy, errors can and sometimes do occur. Neither the American Quarter Horse Association, The Jocky Club, The Daily Racing Form, nor the compilers of this catalog will be responsible for any error, should it occur. Information as to engagements and/or eligibility to any program is provided by the consignors or their agents. It is included without verification, for information only. CONDITIONS OF SALE CONDITION FIRST: The horses are offered for sale according to the laws of the State of Louisiana. CONDITION SECOND: There shall be no upset price on the animals entering the sale ring. If an opening bid on any animal is not immediately forthcoming to the auctioneer's call, it shall be passed out of the ring as unsold. The right to bid is reserved for all sellers in this state. CONDITION THIRD: The highest bidder is to be the buyer, and if any dispute arises between two or more bidders, the horse in dispute shall be immediately put up again for advance bids. If there be no advance, then the horse shall go to the person from whom the auctioneer recognized the last bid. The auctioneer reserves the right to reject any or all bids. CONDITION FOURTH: Horses will be held at buyers risk and expense from time of sale. No delivery will be made until final settlement. All horses purchased shall be subject to stable charges for each day or fraction thereof from twelve o'clock noon of the day following sale. CONDITION FIFTH: PAY CASHIER IN ALL CASES. In no case shall any part of purchase money be paid by the buyer to consignor, as such payment will not be regarded as valid or entitle buyer to delivery of the horse. On final payment for a horse, the cashier of the undersigned will issue an order which must be presented by the buyer to the stable manager for its delivery. Buyers are cautioned not to lose these orders. CONDITION SIXTH: Terms of sale are CASH or APPROVED CHECKS, and payment in full MUST BE MADE TO THE CASHIER IMMEDIATELY AFTER SALE, subject to CONDITIONS SEVENTH, EIGHTH, NINTH AND FOURTEENTH. CONDITION SEVENTH: Upon Failure of any buyer to comply with these conditions, any money deposited by him in part payment shall be forfeited to consignor, the latter paying therefrom all proper expenses; and all lots not cleared as aforesaid may, without notice, be resold at public, or private sale, and the deficiency, if any, as well as the expense of such resale, shall be made good immediately by the defaulter at this side. CONDITION EIGHTH: If any person shall purchase a horse and fail to pay for it within the time limited by CONDITION SIXTH, nothing contained in CONDITION SEVENTH shall prevent the auctioneer or the consignor from compelling such person to pay for it if the auctioneer or the consignor sees fit. CONDITION NINTH: Quarter Horse registration papers will be forwarded to the A.Q.H.A. as soon as purchase price has been paid in full. CONDITIONS OF SALE CONDITION TENTH: Unless otherwise expressly announced at the time of sale, there is no guarantee of any kind as to the soundness or condition or other quality of any animal sold in this sale, except that animals which are unsound or are "Cribbers" must be so announced at the time of sale. In the case of horses of less than racing age, there is no guarantee as to the soundness of wind. Any animal whose condition is as aforesaid and is not so announced at time of sale will be subject to return to consignor with refund of purchase price, provided that the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association is so notified in writing and shall be within forty–eight (48) hours after the start of the session at which the animal in question was sold. Any animal sold in this sale which is described at time of sale as a colt, and does not at such time have two testes descended to the scrotum, or that are completely palpable below the inguinal ring; or is described at time of sale as a gelding and is at such time a colt or ridgeling or shall be subject to return to the consignor with refund of purchase price provided that the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association is notified in (48) hours after the start of the session at which the animal was sold.

A MILLENNIUM ARTS PROJECT REVISED EDITION NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS Contents Chairman’s Message 3 NEA Literature Fellows by State 4 Editor’s Note 5 The Writer’s Place by E.L. Doctorow 7 Biographies and Excerpts 8 2 CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE WRITERS record the triumphs and tragedies of the human spirit and so perform an important role in our society. They allow us—in the words of the poet William Blake—“to see a world in a grain of sand,” elevating the ordinary to the extraordinary and finding signifi- cance in the seemingly insignificant. Creative writers in our own country deserve our support and encouragement. After all, America’s writers record America. They tell America’s story to its citizens and to the world. The American people have made an important investment in our nation’s writers through the National Endowment for the Arts’ Literature Fellowships. Since the program was established 35 years ago, $35 million has enhanced the creative careers of more than 2,200 writers. Since 1990, 34 of the 42 recipients of poetry and fiction awards through the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award have been recipients of Arts Endowment fellowships early in their careers. Beyond statistics, however, these writers have given a lasting legacy to American literature by their work. This revised edition of WRITINGAMERICA features the work of 50 Literature Fel- lowship winners—one from each state—who paint a vivid portrait of the United States in the last decades of the twentieth century. Collectively, they evoke the magnificent spectrum of people, places, and experiences that define America.
