Our Teacher.Pdf Clearwisdom.net 1 Our Teacher Introduction In the early 1990’s, Mr. Li Hongzhi (respectfully referred to as “Master” or “Teacher” by His students) embarked on the auspicious goal of imparting the great teachings of Falun Dafa to the world. Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a practice of what the Chinese call “self-cultivation.” Falun Dafa students perform slow-moving, graceful exercises and, more importantly, apply the principles of Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance to their daily lives. Starting in 1992, Master Li traveled all over China for more than two years, giving over fifty series of lectures on the practice in cities throughout the country. The classes were the most inexpensive of their type in the country, but what students received was priceless—they gained a true cultivation practice that went far beyond the realm of just keeping healthy and fit. Master Li participated in the 1992 and 1993 Oriental Health Expos in Beijing, earning several awards. Students quickly found that during the course of the lecture series, their bodies were being purified, reaching a state of optimum health. This initial benefit led many to seriously look into the practice, accounting for its extremely rapid growth. By 1998, over 100 million people had embraced the practice in China alone. Currently, Falun Dafa is practiced in over 60 countries around the world. In the course of Master Li’s selfless effort to spread the practice, many could see that He was no ordinary qigong master—He genuinely exemplified the greatness of the practice. Master Li was truly guiding people to higher realms of awareness. Because of this, millions completely regained their health and attained deeper understandings of what it means to be human and how to upgrade themselves to live virtuous and dignified lives, filled with compassion for all. Practitioners nobly facing the unprecedented brutality of persecution in China over the past five years have demonstrated these improvements in character. The greatness of Falun Dafa and its practitioners has been recognized around the world: Master Li Hongzhi and Falun Dafa have received over 1,400 recognitions and awards, and Master Li has been nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize. This book is a compilation of recollections of the early years when Falun Dafa was first taught in China. In these essays, students of the practice recall the lectures, their interactions in various situations with Master Li, and some of their personal experiences with Falun Dafa. All of the narratives in this book are true, personal accounts, and they will serve as a record of that precious period of history—history that is increasingly being recognized for the great impact it is having on the world. 2 Table of Content 1) When Teacher Taught the Fa in Chengdu................................................................................................................. 1 Country Advice China China – CHN37025 – Falun Gong – Organisational structure – Relationship to Buddhism 20 July 2010 1. What is known about the organisational hierarchy of Falun Dafa, if there is one? Are there connections to the Buddhist Association in different areas? Do local groups have presidents or chairmen, who meet with Master Li? Several sources located indicate that Falun Dafa has a fairly loose, informal organisational structure. Moreover, Falun Gong adherents stress that the organisation does not have any organisational hierarchy. Most sources agree, however, that the web of local Falun Dafa organisations in a number of countries and their connections to each other via interpersonal networks and web-based interactions, demonstrate at least some level of informal organisation. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa, is often referred by Falun Gong practitioners as “Master Li”.1 No information was located to indicate that Master Li has been directly involved in establishing the various local Falun Dafa Associations in Australia, or that he meets with the associations‟ representatives. No representative would use such a title as “Chairmen” or “Presidents” due to the deliberate avoidance of any practitioner hierarchy (as outlined in the information set out below). The Australian Falun Dafa Information Centre‟s list of contacts (http://www.falunau.org/sites&contacts.htm) for various practice sites throughout the country lists only names and numbers; there are no titles differentiating the contacts. A number of previous research responses provide information on the organisational structure of Falun Gong within Australia: Research Response CHN33686 of September 2008 includes information supplied to the Tribunal by Ms Sealand Gregory, the Australian Falun Dafa Information Centre‟s contact person for general enquiries on practice sites around Sydney.

  • The Falun Gong in China: a Sociological Perspective*
The Falun Gong in China: A Sociological Perspective* Cheris Shun-ching Chan ABSTRACT This article offers a sociological perspective on the rise of and crackdown on the falun gong in relation to the social, cultural and political context of China. I specify from a sociological perspective that the falun gong is categorically not a sect but a cult-like new religious movement. Its popularity, I suggest, is related to the unresolved secular problems, normative breakdown and ideological vacuum in China in the 1980s and 1990s. Before the crackdown, the falun gong represented a successful new religious movement, from a Euro-American perspective. However, most of its strengths as a movement have become adversarial to its survival in the specific historical and political condition of China. The phenomenal growth and overseas expansion of the falun gong (FLG; also known as the falun dafa) surprised the Chinese leadership. On the other hand, the heavy-handed crackdown launched by the Chinese government on this group startled world-wide observers. This article attempts to understand the rise and fall of the FLG from a sociological perspective. Applying theoretical insights from the sociology of new religious movements (NRM), it explores how the contemporary socio- cultural context of China contributed to the popularity of religious and quasi-religious qigong movements like the FLG and why the Chinese government launched a severe crackdown on this particular group. In the late 1980s there were already many religious and quasi-religious qigong groups in mainland China.1 A sociological analysis of the popular- ity of the FLG will contribute to an understanding of the “qigong fever” phenomenon in China.

On appeal, Yep asserts that the BIA erred as a matter of law when it concluded that he had not established a well-founded fear of future persecution in China based on his practice of Falun Gong. Yep also contends that the BIA erred in finding that he had not met his burden of establishing eligibility for withholding of removal. Finally, Yep argues that the BIA erred in concluding that he abandoned his claim for CAT relief. For the reasons set forth below, we deny the petition for review.

  • Entrepreneurial Logics and the Evolution of Falun Gong
Entrepreneurial Logics and the Evolution of Falun Gong YUNFENG LU This article documents the shift of Falun Gong from a primarily secular healing system to a new religion centering on salvation. Emerging as a qigong organization in China in the early 1990s that provided immediate healing treatments to practitioners, Falun Gong eventually developed into a salvation-oriented religious firm. Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong, played a vital role in promoting the movement’s transition. Facing the competitive qigong market, Mr. Li decided to differentiate Falun Gong from other competing qigong movements by offering a theory about salvation. He also adopted other organizational and doctrinal mechanisms that are useful in sustaining practitioners and preventing potential schisms. These strategies partly accounted for the growth of Falun Gong in the 1990s. This case study indicates that the religious economy model is helpful in understanding the evolution of Falun Gong, a new religion in contemporary China. INTRODUCTION Religions have been reviving in China since the 1980s. Such a revival can serve as something of a laboratory for sociologists to investigate the birth of new religions and the background against which they emerge. However, up to the present, the survival of religion in China is a somewhat neglected area of theoretical concern, especially to sociologists of religion (Lang 2004). This article uses insights from the “religious economy” model to examine the rise of a new religion in China. Grounded in exchange theory, the religious economy model provides a theory of the birth of religions. Assuming that people seek to gain rewards that are always limited in supply, and some of which actually do not exist in the observable world, Stark and his collaborators (Stark and Bainbridge 1980a, 1980b, 1981, 1985, 1987; Stark and Finke 2000) propose that humans will tend to formulate and accept explanations for obtaining rewards in the distant future or in some other nonverifiable context.

The demise of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is only a matter of time. Nevertheless, before its complete collapse, the CCP is trying to tie its fate to the Chinese nation, with its 5000 years of civilization. This is a disaster for the Chinese people. The Chinese people must now face the impending questions of how to view the CCP, how to evolve China into a society without the CCP, and how to pass The Epoch Times is now publishing a special editori al series, on the Chinese heritage. Throughout its 80-plus years, everything the CCP has touched has been marred with lies, wars, famine, tyranny, massacre and terror. Traditional faiths and principles have been violently destroyed. Original ethical concepts and social structures have been disintegrated by force. Empathy, love and harmony among people have been twisted into struggle and hatred. Veneration and appreciation of the heaven and earth have been replaced by an arrogant desire to “fight with heaven and earth.” The result has been a total collapse of social, moral and ecological systems, and a profound crisis for the Chinese people, and indeed for humanity.
