I was raised in Marin County, CA., several blocks from Bay. This is where my interest in boating and nature began. My Artist parents and teachers encouraged me to draw. The art dept at San Rafael High School was inspirational. I continued studying at CSU Biography Chico where I was encouraged by renowned printmaker, Janet Turner. In 1975, when I was 21, I drove the Alaska Highway with a friend. We traveled to Fairbanks, and then I went alone to Denali Park where I had my first real wilderness experience. That Summer I ended up on the Homer Spit where I met my future husband. He was building a log cabin in isolated Sadie Cove. Eventually we married and had a son. The three of us spent 17 summers commercial salmon fishing off a remote beach in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Living and fishing in the s8lderness changed my life. The isolation, storms, tides, bears, and the cyclical nature of the sockeye salmon run was both exciting and inspirational. I completed several art courses at the University of Alaska before moving to Portland, OR in 1987. Finished my BA in Art at Marylhurst University in 1994, studying printmaking with Dennis Cunningham. I now have my own studio where I draw, print and operate a picture framing business. Because I have been fortunate to live in such beautiful places I have been compelled to make landscapes. These images are meant to be visual reminders that document a particular time and place. Creating a detailed and layered space helps me to convey a personal impression. The tree silhouettes evoke emotion and the abstract geometry of nature. Even though I make some color monotypes and drawings my first love is black and white blockprinting. The challenge of creating color values with black and white, and the dramatic quality that results, helps me describe the power and beauty of nature. - See folder for chronological bio.

Remarks - Mr. Hall comments, "All we ask is that we cope with life and attempt to wrestle from it some understanding in a shape we can caress. Works of art are evidence of the experience, the point of silence where meaning, beauty, and human emotions of varied forms commingle to form the work of art, no matter its shape of content. It is not style, fashion, skill or idea that marks the meaningful work of art, but the degree of possession of craft and self, make the silence sing in this vast expanse of space and time." Carl Hall studied all the abandoned Indian sites he could find in the Northwest. This painting reflects his interest in Indian motifs.

Remarks - Plaque: 2001 People's Choice - The Sunbathers is the culmination of Patecky’s many years of working with concrete as a sculpture medium. Sunbathers can be described as a sculpture that is figurative and stylized. In the lexion of art this means that the sculpture is a depiction in the figure. Patecky feels that appearance of a sculpture should reflect the character of the material that it is made from. - Sunbathers is one of many of Patecky’s mother and child compositions. It is an eternal theme and one that all people can relate to.

Remarks In these two works, the computer serves two important functions in the process of design. First, it is complex, quick and increases artistic productivity. Second, it allows the composition to be studied and developed and projected into perspective space. These multiple images are products, as the artist says, "of a new aesthetic, a new vision of the world, by the direct use of the digital nature of the medium. Rather than trying to disguise pixels, they have become the central element of my artmaking."

Remarks - 2008 Chronicle winner I am attracted to the complexity that the landscape creates with its interlocking details of trees, foliage, and in this case, great huge boulders. It is interesting to me how the question is posed, "how old are these boulders?" They have been here a lot longer than Lake Oswego has. They are old, yet the trees are young. With the lime kiln nearby, I wonder if this was more of an industrial area, even though now I can hear the traffic noise of the bridge overhead in an increasingly urbanized area. And now this spot becomes an area of nature hiding within the city. I address these communal city memories with my painting method I paint studies from the site take photographs and yet Building City Hall Location Floor Location 1st

Remarks - For many years this artist experienced the rising mists and sunlit sails of early morning harbors. He has used a blend of three color washes. His other techniques include producing reflections by scratching and lifting color with a damp-dry brush to heighten the abstract impression and achieve a mysterious and softened effect. Mr. Woltjes comments: "Nothing fires my imagination like the beauty of our natural environment with a range of color and light that gives me limitless subject matter. I’m always searching for new and exciting ways to paint, and when one challenge has been met, I immediately accept another. This is the chemistry of motivation, the engine of creativity."

When I was five, my father sold a doll house he had made because I didn’t play with it enough. My dad was always making things. I enjoy working with tools from sanders and electric saws to the wood chisels he left. Maybe the small scale is an attempt to recapture the doll house, and maybe it’s because miniature things are naturally appealing."
