  • Saturation of Piano Markets ― History of the U.S
Saturation of Piano Markets ― History of the U.S. and Asian Piano Industries ― Tomoaki TANAKA 1. Technical development of the piano and how its market grew The first acoustic piano was made in 1709 by Bartolomeo Cristofori, who was a harpsi- chord producer for the Medici family in Italy. The piano was originally built in the shape of a harpsichord. At the beginning pianos were played in relatively small rooms, such as in a salon of a noble residence. But pianos gradually came to be played at concert halls holding thousands of people. The sound of pianos needed to be more powerful and emo- tional. The only way was to increase the tension on the strings. New materials were need- ed since the existing wooden plates could not sustain such tension. Alpheus Babcock, who was a boiler shop owner in the U.S., invented the full iron frame piano in 1825. His pianos succeeded in obtaining more powerful tension than wooden frames and expanded the sound range by octaves. In 1837, Jonas Chickering, a piano engineer and a founder of Chickering & Sons in the U.S., improved Babcockʼs frames and a patent was granted to him in 1841. Steinway & Sons eventually played an even greater role in the evolution of the piano. Steinway & Sons was established in 1853 in New York by Heinrich Engelhart Steinway, who was a German piano producer. This company made important inventions and im- provements to the piano, for example the invention of the over-string scale(crossing the middle and bass strings) for grand pianos, quick response hammer action, and improve- ment of the full cast-iron plate.

  • Ibanez Tube Screamer® 808 History
© PDF by Plautz Ibanez Tube Screamer® 808 History The Ibanez Tube Screamer is an overdrive pedal. The most popular use of a tube screamer is to push a tube amp to make it overdrive more. The pedal has a characteristic mid-boosted tone popular with blues players. The "legendary" Tube Screamer has been used by guitarists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan to create their signature sound, and is one of the most popular and most copied overdrive pedals. Description When used with a tube amplifier the Tube Screamer increases the gain of the input signal, overloading the preamp and further distorting the signal. When used with a cranked master-volume type tube amplifier, this can result in much higher volumes than before the pedal is engaged if the preamp is not already turned up fairly high. Provided the preamp gain is already turned up, the Tube Screamer will saturate the signal, creating a thickly overdriven tone. The pedal has an overdrive knob, a tone knob, and a level knob. The drive knob controls the level of distortion, the tone knob adjusts the amount of treble in the sound, and the level knob controls the output volume of the pedal. The pedal can be used on a solid-state amp to try to mimic the sound of a vintage tube amp, although many guitarists prefer to use it to push a tube amp's pre-amp into an overdriven state. The classic Tube Screamer sound includes a "mid-hump," which means that the circuit accentuates frequencies between the bass and treble ranges (mid-frequencies).

The simple design of these metal snare drums incorporates a heavy-duty Q-type strainer that is robust yet smooth and features a shell with an outer center bead which helps open up the tone of the drum for crisp, articulate performance. With seven sizes in 1.2mm aluminum, brass, and stainless steel, there is a Recording Custom snare drum to fit your style. But don't just take our word for it. See what other artists, like Donald Barrett, are saying about these snares: 4wrd.it/RC_DONALDBARRETT You’re going to want more than one. These five models have been staples in our back room for years, and while the name says ‘Modern Jazz,’ we’ve found that they are exceptional in almost any musical setting.

ABSTRACT Ecstatic Utterances Explained: A Companion to Ecstatic Utterances Jim Simmons, M.Div., M.M., M.M. Thesis Chairperson: Scott McAllister, D.M.A. This paper provides technical and philosophical insight into the composition Ecstatic Utterances. Three distinguishing approaches feature in this thesis: strands, and their accompanying theory; harmonic crescendo and a limited aleatory passage. Of greatest importance amongst these three is the concept of a strand, and the possibilities obtaining therein; possibilities which have crystallized in the writer’s musical and verbal expression, providing methods for both composition and analysis. While these methods remain in need of development, important strides have already been taKen: a detailed analysis of portions of Ecstatic Utterances and a brief theoretical foundation titled “A Beginning to the Discussion of Strands as a Form of Musical Expression: A Conceptual Glossary.” Both documents were developed simultaneously in an attempt to be systematic. All worK is original unless otherwise cited. Ecstatic Utterances Explained: A Companion to Ecstatic Utterances by Jim Simmons, B.M.E., B.M., M.Div., M.M.
