ROAD TRAFFIC

The Portsmouth Road, Hindhead, (40 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Order 2011

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 84(1)(a) and (2) of, and paragraph 27(1) of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(a), having consulted with the chief officer of , makes the following Order:-

1. This Order shall come into force on 10th July 2011, and may be cited as the Portsmouth Road, Hindhead, Surrey (40 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Order 2011.

2. No person shall cause or permit any vehicle to be driven at a speed exceeding 40 miles per hour on the length of the Portsmouth Road described in the Schedule to this Order.

3. The A3 Trunk Road (Bramshott to Hindhead) (50 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Order 1994(b) is hereby revoked.

[DFT 3877] Article 2 THE SCHEDULE

Length of road subject to a 40 miles per hour speed limit.

The Portsmouth Road at Hindhead in the in the County of Surrey, from a point in Portsmouth Road 30 metres south west of the centre of the access to Tyndalls Wood, to a point in Portsmouth Road 330 metres northeast of the southeast face of Hammer Lane Underbridge, as measured along the centre line of Upper Hammer Lane and Portsmouth Road, a total distance of approximately 1550 metres (all distances are measured along the length of those roads).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This order revokes the existing 50mph speed limit between Bramshott and Headley Road which includes a length of improved A3 trunk road. The order introduces a 40mph limit on Portsmouth Road south of Headley Road and will be contiguous with a 40mph speed limit on Upper Hammer Lane to its junction with Woolmer Hill Road to be introduced by Surrey County Council and County Council.
