BLUE JACKETS NOTES RINGING UP THE POINTS Columbus corralled another win on Tuesday in their New Year’s Eve clash with Florida, prevailing 4-1 over Florida. The win pushes the Blue Jackets’ point streak to 11 games (7-0-4, 18 pts.), the fourth-longest run in franchise history. The Jackets point streak, which began on Dec. 9, is the longest active run in the NHL. The Blue Jackets are 6-0-2 in their last eight games as the club looks to take two points in Boston tonight. It’s the first meeting between the two teams since their duel in the Eastern Conference Semifinal, with Columbus falling in six games.

FOLLOWING UP A DECEMBER TO REMEMBER The Blue Jackets banked 18 points in December (7-3-4), the fourth-most points in the month in club history (record 14-0-0, 28 pts. in 2016). The club will look to carry over its recent success into the new calendar year beginning with tonight’s meeting at Boston. The Blue Jackets play five of their next six games away from Nationwide Arena. Columbus will host San Jose for a Saturday matinee game at 1 pm ET before embarking on a four-game swing out west, knocking off all three California clubs and Vegas from Jan. 6-11.

COVERING THE CREASE Much of the credit for the Blue Jackets point streak can be attributed to the team’s ability to keep the puck out of the net. Over the 11- game point streak, CBJ have allowed just 20 goals, with their 1.81 GA/GP tops in the NHL. The club’s success in the goaltending department can be stretched back to Nov. 1, with the Blue Jackets’ 2.39 GA/GP ranking third in the league (67 GA in 28 GP), helping the club rank seventh on the season (2.75).

HEY NOW, YOU’RE ALL-STARS The NHL named its All-Star teams on Monday and the Metropolitan Division featured a pair of Jackets in defenseman Seth Jones and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. It marks the fourth-straight All-Star selection for Jones, who ranks sixth in the NHL in TOI this season (25:23) and is second on the team in assists and in points among defensemen with 4-18-22 in 39 games. The selection is Korpisalo’s first of his NHL career. He is tied for second in the NHL in games played (32), ranks fourth in minutes (1,877) and wins (17, tied) and 5th-T in shutouts (2) in 2019-20. It marks the third time in the past four seasons (2017, 2019, 2020) that the club has had multiple players selected to the NHL All-Star Game.

OH-MY-ZACH Zach Werenski scored his first career hat trick on New Year’s Eve vs. Florida, becoming just the third CBJ defenseman in franchise history to score three goals in a game and first to record it at Nationwide Arena. The Jackets’ all-time leading goal scorer from the blueline has 11 goals on the season, good for fifth in the NHL among rearguards. He has 5-2-7 in his last five games. He has posted 10-plus goals in each of his four NHL seasons, becoming the third U.S-born blueliner in League history to accomplish the feat as he joins Phil Housley (11; 1982-93) and Dave Ellett (8; 1984-92).

SWEDE SWEDE CONSISTENCY Gustav Nyquist cultivated his fifth multi-point game as a Blue Jacket with a two-assist effort on Tuesday vs. the Panthers. The Swedish forward leads the club in both assists (19) and points (28) as the Jackets approach the halfway mark of the season. His 10 points (2-8- 10) in the month of December led the club as he’s put together a consistent effort with 2-7-9 in his past nine games. He has 1-4-5 in his last four games vs. BOS.

THE FACEOFF JENNER-AL Boone Jenner had his third multi-point game of the season on Tuesday vs. Florida (1-1-2) and has collected 2-5-7 in his last eight games. Another valuable asset has been in the faceoff circle, where his 54.2 win pct. leads the club, having won 50 pct. or more of his faceoffs in 16 of his last 19 games. He’s averaged 21:29 TOI over the past nine games since Dec. 14, which is eighth in the NHL among forwards and has 5-1-6 in his last six games vs. Boston.
