    BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS: COACHES BIOS BRENT THOMPSON - HEAD COACH Brent Thompson is in his seventh season as head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which also marks his ninth year in the New York Islanders organization. Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 246-203-50 in 499 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

LIGHTNING TAKE 2-0 SERIES LEAD BACK TO AMALIE ARENA Victor Hedman assisted on the game-winning goal and Andrei Vasilevskiy recorded 31 saves on the night he was named a finalist for the Vezina Trophy as the Lightning took a 2-0 series lead for the second time in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The last defending Stanley Cup champion to lead 2-0 in each of their first two series went on to repeat (PIT: 2017) * Vasilevskiy (2.23 GAA, .939 SV%, 1 SO in 2021), a finalist for the Vezina Trophy for the fourth straight year, became the third Lightning goaltender to allow one or fewer goals in three straight playoff contests. The others: Ben Bishop (3 GP in 2016) and Nikolai Khabibulin (3 GP in 2003). * The Lightning improved to 32-1-0 when leading after two periods in 2020-21, regular season and playoffs combined (26-0-0: regular season & 6-1: playoffs). Colorado (35-1-0) is the only team with more wins than Tampa Bay in that scenario (31-1-0: regular season & 4-0: playoffs). * Tuesday’s contest also marked Tampa Bay’s 34th playoff win by a one-goal margin since the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs – tied with Washington for the most among all teams over that span.

    NHL MORNING SKATE: STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS EDITION – MAY 23, 2021 THREE HARD LAPS * Nikita Kucherov joined elite company with his sixth career three-assist game in the postseason as the Lightning pushed the Panthers to the brink of elimination. * After a historic regular season in which he climbed to the third-most regular-season wins in NHL history, Marc-Andre Fleury continued his ascent of another all-time list as he blanked the Wild and helped the Golden Knights move within one win of the Second Round. * The Presidents’ Trophy-winning Avalanche can achieve a rare feat today as they attempt to become the first team to advance to the Second Round of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. KUCHEROV HELPS DEFENDING CHAMPS MOVE WITHIN ONE WIN OF SECOND ROUND Nikita Kucherov (1-3—4) became the first player in Lightning history to record four or more points in a postseason game three times and Alex Killorn (2-2—4) posted a career-high four points as the defending Stanley Cup champions moved within one win of advancing to the 2021 Second Round. * Kucherov, who capped his performance by scoring Tampa Bay’s seventh power-play goal of the series, assisted on three of his team’s first four goals. Saturday’s outing also marked Kucherov’s sixth career playoff game with at least three helpers – the most among active players. * Since Kucherov made his postseason debut during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Lightning have registered an NHL-best 57 wins over that span – eight more than the next- closest team (PIT: 49).
