InfoGibraltar Servicio de Información de Gibraltar comunicado Gobierno de Gibraltar: Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, Sostenibilidad, Cambio Climático, Patrimonio, Educación y Cultura Fase II de instalación de tapabocas Gibraltar, 24 de mayo de 2021 El Ministerio de Patrimonio se complace en anunciar la conclusión de la Fase II de su actual programa de mantenimiento de cañones y tapabocas. Se ha llevado a cabo una extensa labor de mantenimiento sobre varios cañones y en aquellos que lo requerían se han instalado tapabocas para protegerlos frente a la entrada de agua y acumulación de residuos, lo cual se ha considerado un problema para la conservación de estos importantes artefactos históricos desde hace tiempo. Un tapabocas es un tapón o cubierta de madera para la boca de un cañón o mortero. Todos los tapabocas lucen el Escudo de Armas del Cuerpo Real de Armamento del Ejército (Royal Army Ordnance Corps, RAOC), el órgano responsable del transporte y emisión de armas y municiones a las tropas, así como el mantenimiento y reparación de dichas armas en el ejército británico. Esto incluye todas las piezas de artillería, las cuales, aunque expedidas al Cuerpo Real de Artillería (Royal Artillery), siguen siendo propiedad de RAOC. La Fase I incluyó la restauración completa del icónico cañón Koehler, el primero con un carro- afuste dotado de cureña deslizante con ángulo de depresión de hasta 42⁰ (Koehler depression carriage) en la Explanada (Grand Casemates Square), que permitía por primera vez tirar desde las alturas del peñón hacia abajo. Estos trabajos incluyeron una restauración completa de la réplica del afuste Koehler y la instalación de un tapabocas sobre la boca del cañón. -

Deputy Chief Minister (Hon. Dr J J Garcia): Mr Speaker, it is good to see this House meeting 5 today in order to debate the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure. The events of the last 15 months have shown that nothing can be taken for granted, not even this traditional, set-piece annual fixture. This is my 23rd Budget. Thirteen have been in Opposition, 10 as a Member of the Government – one of which failed to materialise in the usual way, as we all know, as a 10 consequence of the pandemic. We have seen how a virus first detected in China at the end of 2019 has now taken millions of lives, destroyed families everywhere, decimated economies across the planet and quite simply turned the world upside down. The pandemic has challenged everything that we took for granted: the simple right to leave our homes, the right to meet who we want when we want to, the right 15 to gather in hundreds or thousands, the ability to travel smoothly and simply, the right to open the doors of our businesses, our relationships with our loved ones and the elderly in particular. -

PRESS RELEASE No: 545/2021 Date: 21st July 2021 BUDGET SPEECH 2021 - Prof John Cortes MBE, Minister for Education & Culture, Environment, Sustainability & Climate Change, Heritage and Public Health. Note: Sections in Italics are included as additional information but were not read out in Parliament. Mr Speaker INTRODUCTION The world is in crisis. The Climate has changed in our lifetime, and this change is accelerating. Only this month we have seen record temperatures around the world, leading to deaths from heat in countries we’ve always considered to be cold, and torrential rains, flooding and death across western Europe. Parts of the Earth will in a few decades become uninhabitable through heat. There will be thousands of climate refugees heading north from the tropics. We will be on the front line of that wave, and of the effects of sea level rise. A two metre rise will render our airfield unusable, while a rise of 3 metres will flood all the low lying areas inhabited areas of Gibraltar, including Laguna, Glacis, Westside and the tower Town. This is no joke. Those of us who are parents or grandparents need to realise that this is the world – the Gibraltar – facing those young people and children who we love.
