Mar Thoma College for the Hearing Impaired, Cherkala, Kasaragod, is an academic institute in the self-financing sector offering Under Graduate Programme, B.Com with Computer Application for the hearing impaired. It is the first Self-financing College of its kind affiliated to Kannur University offering degree course for such students. HISTORY In the year 1981, with a view to educate the hearing impaired children, Mar Thoma School for the Deaf was established and it had been aided by the Govt.of Kerala in the year 2005. Subsequently in the year 2004 the School started an unaided Higher Secondary Section. A College for providing quality higher education to the hearing impaired children had been a long cherished dream of the students and parents. Consequently initiatives were taken and the first batch of students was admitted in the year 2013.The College offers B.Com with Computer Application having duration of 3 years, spread over six semesters. NUMBER OF SEATS The total number of seats including Management Quota is 25. HOSTEL FACILITY Hostel facility is provided only for girls inside the Campus. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION 1. Admission is restricted to those who are hearing impaired, as defined in [“The Persons with Disabilities Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act, 1995”] .i.e., Hearing Impairment or loss of 60 dB or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies. 2. Candidates seeking admission to the degree programme should have passed Plus Two/Pre degree or its equivalent from any Board or University in India, recognized as equivalent for admission to a degree course in the University of Kannur or equivalent of 10+2 education from abroad. HOW TO APPLY Application can be had from the College Office on payment of Rs.300/- or Rs.350 by post (Rs.150/- for SC/ST candidates). Attested copies of certificates/documents to be submitted with the application. 1. 12/10 standard certificate to prove age &date of birth. 2. Copy of Disability Certificate 3. Copy of Aadhar/Voter’s ID/Driving license/Passport to prove the address. 4. Caste/Community Certificate if applicable. 5. Copy of the first two pages of the Ration Card. 6. 2 Copies of passport size photographs. 7. Mark list 8. Conduct Certificate 9. Transfer Certificate NOTE: 1. Applications received after the last date will not be accepted. 2. Incomplete applications and applications without required supporting documents shall be rejected. 3. Do not enclose any original certificates along with the application. ADMISSION PROCEDURE 1. Candidates selected as per the norms of the University shall be intimated through selection memo. 2. Selected candidates should report to the College Office on the date and time specified, with all original documents and the selection memo. 3. Originals of all certificates/documents mentioned in the application form should be submitted at the time of admission. 4. The candidate shall pay fees for one year (2 semesters) at the time of admission. Rest of the fees should be remitted at the beginning of each year 5. 5 Copies of passport size photos should be produced at the time of admission. FEE STRUCTURE 1. The tuition fees for Indian nationals is currently Rs. 9000/- per semester and 25% of the tuition fee to be remitted as Special Fee in each Semester. 2. A refundable caution deposit of Rs. 2000/- to be paid at the time of admission which will be refunded after completion of the degree programme subject to the clearance certificate obtained from the concerned authority. 3. In addition to the above, candidates will have to pay examination fee and other fees as prescribed by the University from time to time. Fees once remitted shall not be refunded under any circumstance. 4. Tuition fee is payable at the beginning of each semester on any day before the tenth working day. Otherwise Late fee of Rs.10/- shall be charged per week. 5. The admitted candidates can apply for the National scholarship for persons with Disabilities by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, SC/ST scholarship, and the State level Scholarship given by the Social Welfare Department. MCHI shall provide guidance to the candidates for applying to the scholarship. 6. PTA fund will be collected as per the decision of the PTA. GENERAL RULES 1. Ragging in any form [Harassment by word, action, gesture, intimidation, coercion, physical or mental insult/assault, teasing etc. which can cause mental/physical stress or moral torture or agony to other students or staff inside/outside the premises of the College or hostel etc. strictly come under the word ‘Ragging’] is prohibited in the College. The College is committed to abolish ragging in the campus. Hence, any student who indulges in any form of ragging shall be subject to penal action as per provisions of law. Students and parents shall at the time of admission furnish an affidavit to the effect that the student shall not indulge in any form of ragging. 2. Use without permission of mobile phone cameras or any other electronic gadget by students is prohibited in the campus. Any violation will lead to disciplinary action as deemed fit by the College authorities. 3. Students are required to maintain the buildings and campus clean and equipments should be handled with care. Any damage to the building or equipment will be made good and the cost shall be recovered from the person responsible. 4. Students cannot enter a classroom or laboratory after the session has started; nor will they be allowed to leave the session without the permission of the faculty-in-charge. 5. Every student will be issued an Identity Card, which must be worn around his/her neck using the tag provided. 6. Leave of absence will be granted only on medical grounds. Such leave will be considered only for the purpose of granting condonation of shortage for attendance.
