CHINGAY PARADE SINGAPORE FACT SHEET

Stunning 12-18metre floats, mesmerising gravity-defying acrobatic stunts pulled off by giant flag bearers and stilt walkers, impressive lion and dragon dances and spectacular visual treats such as waterway parade, fire and snow effects and many, many more…

Welcome to Chingay Parade Singapore – Asia’s Grandest Street and Floats Parade! Helmed by 11,000 local and international performers from more than 150 organisations, Chingay 2015 will present a culturally-rich, beautiful and immersive Parade.

The first Chingay Parade Singapore, held during the first weekend of the , was organised in 1973. Chingay, with all its noise, festivity and gaiety, would compensate for the ban on , a customary New Year practice to drive away evil spirits. The word Chingay is equivalent to the Mandarin zhuang yi (妆艺), which means “the art of costume and masquerade” in the Hokkien dialect.

Join scores of spectators; Singaporeans and visitors alike where age, race, language and creed are no barriers and we celebrate together as ONE at the people’s Parade of Singapore!
