COMMENCEMENT 2015 Saturday, May 9 GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT COMMENCEMENT is a day like no other. At the University of Maine, we come together as an academic community to celebrate the achievements of the state’s flagship university with hundreds of our dearest family members, friends, colleagues, mentors and peers. The academic, research and creative accomplishments of our undergraduate and graduate students, and our faculty, are at the heart of the distinctive UMaine experience. Our students and faculty make us extremely proud and thrilled to be here, sharing this memorable milestone with them. This UMaine Commencement also is part of our 150th anniversary celebration, a year of reflecting on a legacy as Maine’s land grant institution and how that history informs our future. Since 1865, the University of Maine has been a leader in educating students and conducting important research, scholarship and community Dr. Susan J. For these past few years, our students have been active participants in this University of Maine community committed to excellence and engagement. They have learned from the extraordinary faculty in their fields and have been part of a student-centered community focused on making a difference. Now with degrees in hand, our new UMaine graduates will launch a new chapter in their lives, joining the ranks of nearly 105,000 alumni worldwide who model the UMaine difference.
