Happy 2020! The LSHS Athletic Booster Board enjoyed watching our wonderful athletes Board Members compete this school year. This spring we plan to host concession stands for soccer and track, President – Greg Shackelford assist with Senior Athletic Awards, award eight scholarships, and help with the TPX games. Vice President – Jason Prier If you haven’t already done so, please join the booster club. It costs $20 per year and it is one of Treasurer – Jim Huser the eligible criteria for the annual $1,000 Booster Club Scholarships. Scholarship applications will Secretary – Kim Lock be posted in April and recipients will be announced at the senior athletics awards scheduled for May 7th at 7:00 a.m.. LSR7 voters to cast ballots April 7 on no tax rate increase bond issue to address student safety, enrollment capacity and future-ready learning and more In 2018, Lee’s Summit R-7 Schools began a collaborative process to examine the district’s future capacity needs and imagine the classrooms and schools students and staff need to thrive. “As a district, we worked with the community to examine not only short-term solutions such as boundaries,” Interim Superintendent Emily Miller says, “but long-range options that would impact instructional facilities and programs.” This fall, the district’s Citizens’ Advisory Committee used enrollment projections, financial analysis and stakeholder feedback collected over 18 months to recommend facility projects the Board of Education should consider in the future. What emerged is a $224 million no tax rate increase bond issue that was approved by the Board of Education in January and will be considered by voters on April 7, 2020. The bond issue includes major renovations at Lee’s Summit High School, a new fourth middle school to help facilitate the district’s sixth grade to middle school transition, renovations at the district’s existing middle schools, a Mason Elementary expansion, a second early education center, high school stadium improvements related to maintenance and safety, a softball/baseball complex for Lee’s Summit High and additional safety and security upgrades for all R-7 schools. The renovations, additions and other facility improvements in the bond issue address safety, parity and capacity in the district and would not impact the district’s debt service tax rate.
