Epidemiological Update Yellow Fever
Epidemiological Update Yellow Fever 9 March 2017 Situation summary in the Americas Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 8 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and the Plurinational State of Bolivia, have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases. The following is a situation summary in Brazil. In Brazil, since the beginning of the outbreak in December 2016 to EW 9 of 2017, there were 1,500 cases of yellow fever reported (371 confirmed, 163 discarded, and 966 suspected cases remain under investigation), including 241 deaths (127 confirmed, 8 discarded, and 106 under investigation). The case fatality rate (CFR) is 34% among confirmed cases and 11% among suspected cases. According to the probable site of infection, 79% of the suspected and confirmed cases were reported in the state of Minas Gerais (1,057), followed by Espírito Santo (226), São Paulo (15), Bahia (7), Tocantins (6), Goías (1) and Rio Grande do Norte (1).1 The confirmed cases are distributed in three states: Minas Gerais (288), Espírito Santo (79), and São Paulo (4). Figure 1 illustrates the municipalities with confirmed cases and cases under investigation, as well as confirmed epizootics, and epizootics under investigation. In the state of Minas Gerais, the downward trend in suspected and confirmed cases continues to decline for the fourth consecutive week. Meanwhile, in the state of Espírito Santo cases have increased from EW 1 to EW 4 of 2017 and it will be necessary to continue to observe the evolution of the epidemic (Figure 2). With regard to the number of new cases (confirmed and under investigation) reported between 6 February and 6 March, there were 137 new cases in Espírito Santo and in Minas Gerais during the same period there were 239 new cases reported. -

Received: 31 December 2013; in revised form: 30 July 2014 / Accepted: 7 August 2014 / Published: 19 August 2014 Abstract: Agricultural census data and fieldwork observations are used to analyze changes in land cover/use intensity across Rondônia and Mato Grosso states along the agricultural frontier in the Brazilian Amazon. Results show that the development of land use is strongly related to land distribution structure. While large farms have increased their share of annual and perennial crops, small and medium size farms have strongly contributed to the development of beef and milk market chains in both Rondônia and Mato Grosso. Land use intensification has occurred in the form of increased use of machinery, labor in agriculture and stocking rates of cattle herds. -

Methods : All confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, from the first confirmed case from February 26 until May 01, 2020 were included. For weather variables, average temperature (°C), dew point (°C), average humidity (%) and wind speedResults (m s-1) were extracted from the Instituto de Meteorologia database. The population size of each capital was used as a control variable, with data obtained from Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística. Spearman rank correlation tests were utilized to examine the correlation between variables. : TheConclusion analysis showed a significant and strong positive correlation between the total cases of COVID-19 and the population size (p<0,01). There was a significant positive correlation with the average humidity of the air and cumulative cases (p<0,05). There was no significant correlation with other climate variables. : Our results confront some expectations commented around the world about a possible seasonality of COVID-19 during periods of low humidity and can assist government and health authorities in decision making to control the pandemic. -
Yellow Fever Epidemiological Update
Epidemiological Update Yellow Fever 10 July 2017 Situation summary in the Americas From epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 26 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and Suriname have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases. The following is an update on the situation in Brazil, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. No changes in the number of reported cases have been reported in the other countries. In Brazil, since the beginning of the outbreak in December 2016 up to 31 May 2017, there were 3,240 suspected cases of yellow fever reported (792 confirmed, 1,929 discarded, and 519 under investigation), including 435 deaths (274 confirmed, 124 discarded, and 37 under investigation). The case fatality rate (CFR) among confirmed cases is 35%. According to the probable site of infection,1 suspected cases correspond to 407 municipalities, while the confirmed cases were distributed among 130 municipalities in 8 states (Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Tocantins) and the Federal District. With regard to the confirmed fatal cases and their probable site of infection, one corresponds to the Federal District, 85 to Espírito Santo, one to Goiás, one to Matto Grosso, 165 to Minas Gerais, four to Pará, 7 to Rio de Janeiro, and 10 to São Paulo. In the states with more than 5 confirmed deaths, the CFR among confirmed cases is 50% in São Paulo, 41% in Rio de Janeiro, 34% in Minas Gerais, and 33% in Espírito Santo. No cases were confirmed in new municipalities in Espírito Santo (ES), Minas Gerais (MG), São Paulo (SP), and Rio de Janeiro (RJ) in the last month. -

Methods: From October 2010 to February 2011 stool samples from 100 children enrolled in a government daycare center in the municipality of São José do Rio Preto, in the state of São Paulo, were collected and analyzed. Results: A total of 246 bacteria were isolated in 99% of the fecal samples; 129 were in the diarrheal group and 117 in the non-diarrheal group. Seventy- three strains of Escherichia coli were isolated, 19 of Enterobacter, one of Alcaligenes and one of Proteus. There were 14 cases of mixed colonization with Enterobacter and E. coli. Norovirus and Astrovirus were detected in children with clinical signs suggestive of diarrhea. These viruses were detected exclusively among children residing in urban areas. All fecal samples were negative for the presence of the rotavirus species A and C. The presence of Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba coli, Endolimax nana and hookworm was observed. A significant association was found between food consumption outside home and daycare center and the presence of intestinal parasites. -

TOPOGRAPHY The terrain of Brazil is mostly flat to rolling lowlands in north; some plains, hills, mountains, and a narrow coastal belt. Approximately 60% of the Amazon rainforest is contained in Brazil, what comes to 3.300.000 square kilometer. This rainforest is located in the Northwest of Brazil. (Oak, 2010) The natural resources of Brazil according to the CIA World Factbook, which uses the definition of natural resources as a country's mineral, petroleum, hydropower, and other resources of commercial importance, are: Bauxite, gold, iron ore, manganese, nickel, phosphates, platinum, tin, uranium, petroleum, hydropower and timber.
