That tragedy came just months after a 737 Max disaster in Indonesia. The delay in grounding the World's Max fleets in the wake of those catastrophic events was the first ethical hiccup; the blanket grounding that should have come immediately was delayed while the American Federal Aviation Administration dallied, and theories were floated about what had, or hadn't, caused the disasters. Unilateral decisions to ground the planes came from individual operators, before regulators or Boeing took a stand. But another, even less defensible, ethical decision had been made by the company, and those carriers purchasing the Max planes, before gaming, and loot. • 'Monster' Fatberg Found in Sewer
11th – 17th November 2019 2019 'Monster' fatberg found in sewer A 250-metre long fatberg weighing 130 tonnes, as heavy as 11 double decker buses, has been found blocking a sewer in East London. The mass was filmed by Thames Water engineers who were removing the obstruction. Fatbergs are created when things that shouldn’t go into our sewer systems are put into our sinks and toilets. Blockages are caused when a solid mass of congealed fat, wet wipes, nappies, oil, plasters and kitchen roll etc forms in the sewer. Matt Rimmer from Thames Water said: "It's a total monster and taking a lot of manpower and machinery to remove as it's set hard." You can help make a difference to the health of our sewers by being cautious about what goes down your drain. British car set to break land speed record A British supersonic car which could smash the land speed record next year has already hit 461mph in tests. Bloodhound Land Speed Record (LSR) is a UK-based project aiming to break the world land speed record using the most advanced straight-line racing car ever built. The tests taking place in a dried-up lakebed in the Hakskeenpan desert, Northern Cape, South Africa, exceeded its target speed of 450mph. The car was then slowed down by using a single parachute to aid braking.

ThrustSSC Supersonic Land Speed Record Car Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark Designation Ceremony, 15 March 2014 Coventry Transport Museum, Coventry CV1 1JD , UK 1 History of Land Speed Record for Cars 1898 Jeantaud Land Speed Record Car The Land Speed Record (LSR) for cars is a competition for 4- wheeled vehicles that aim to achieve the highest possible speed over either a measured mile or kilometre. Regulations of the Fédération Internationale du Sport l’Automobile (FIA) require that the speed is the average of two officially timed runs – one in each direction – and that the second run be completed within one hour of the first. The first World Land Speed Record was set in 1898 by Count Gaston de Chasseloup-Laubat driving a battery-electric powered, 36 hp, 1400 kg Jeantaud on the road in Acheres Park near Paris, France. On 18 December 1898 he achieved a one-way record speed of 63.1 km/h (39.2 mph) for the flying kilometre. The record then went to Camille Jenatzy driving his own torpedo shaped Jenatzy at 49.2 mph on 17 January 1899. During 1899 the record went back and forth between these two battery-electric, chain-driven vehicles until on 29 April 1899 Jenatzy set the record speed of 105 km/h (65.8 mph) at Acheres – a record that would stand for three years. These early records were all set in France because it had long, straight roads that encouraged high speed racing. This road system was built by Napoleon in order to march his armies from one city to another.

American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences Review About Supersonic Flight and Mach 3 Flying Relly Victoria Virgil Petrescu ARoTMM-IFToMM, Bucharest Polytechnic University, Bucharest, (CE) Romania Article history Abstract: Aerospace-BAC Concorde was a supersonic passenger aircraft. Received: 13-08-2020 It was the result of a government treaty between the French and British Revised: 22-08-2020 governments, combining the efforts of Aerospace and British Aircraft Accepted: 28-08-2020 Corporation. With only 20 aircraft built in total, the cost of the development phase was a major economic failure. In addition, Air France Email: [email protected] and British Airways were subsidized by the government to buy the aircraft. Of the commercial supersonic aircraft, Concorde was the most successful, with the Tupolev Tu-144 being the other aircraft. The Tu-144 had a higher top speed, but the consumption was higher and the autonomy was lower than the Concorde. Flying for the first time in 1969, Concorde began its commercial service in 1976 and continued for 27 years. It operated transatlantic flights from Heathrow, London (British Airways) and Charles de Gaulle, Paris (Air France) to JFK, New York and Dulles, Washington; flying at record speeds, it travels these distances in less than half the time of other planes. Concorde also set other records, including the official FAI world record "Westbound Around the World" and "Eastbound Around the World" at speed. Following the sole accident on 25 July 2000, the economic effects following the events of 11 September 2001 and other factors, the flights ceased on 24 October 2003.

  • Designing the Fastest Car on the Planet 16 May 2014, by Ben Evans
Designing the fastest car on the planet 16 May 2014, by Ben Evans SSC. In that meeting, we discussed the idea and, specifically, aerodynamic challenges of taking a land-based vehicle to 1,000 mph. It was soon after that bizarre encounter that the picture below turned up on my desk at Swansea University (where I was completing a PhD at the time). A key question when starting to design Bloodhound was: how can we keep the car on the ground? This is important because cars at such speeds are at the risk of taking off, much like how airplanes do. For comparison, a typical passenger plane takes off at Credit: Bloodhound SSC about 150mph. Of course the thrust offered to planes is meant for it to take off, but for cars going at 1,000mph, any mistake in the aerodynamics would mean disaster. Although this hasn't Apart from a brief break in the 1960s and 1970s, happened in recent attempts of speed records, an British engineering and drivers have played a example from 1967 when Donald Campbell tried to dominant role in setting the land speed record in reach a water speed record illustrates what could the fastest cars on the planet.
