1 - The pedestrianized Ljubljana 2 - Architectural cycling tour

To enable sustainable modes of urban mobility, especially The site visit tour by bike will enable an insight in the city walking and cycling, Ljubljana has renovated a large cycling infrastructure, its strong points and elements that still amount of public open spaces. From 2007 an ecological could be improved. Together with the cycling experience zone in the city center was systematically created and inside and outside the city center, cycling chic attendants improved. The area now covers 91,244 m2 and is still will have the opportunity to see Ljubljana’s architectural being enlarged. Additionally, next to the pedestrian zone, marvels of the most famous architects like Maks Fabiani, there is a 32,666 m2 of area with restricted local traffic for Jože Plečnik, Vladimir Šubic and Ivan Vurnik. residents only (24/7). The ecological zone comprises over 30 streets, offers six times larger surface for pedestrians Due to the flat city configuration, the tour is not physically and cyclists, has many new bridges for pedestrians and demanding and is completely safe, but limited up to cyclists and a transport on demand service free-of-charge 20 people. with electric vehicles – Kavalir. 14 3 - Sustainability brings back the Roman Emona

The implementation of sustainable mobility measures (new parking policy, pedestrian area, calming street…) re- discovered cultural heritage and enlightened the period of Roman Emona from 2000 years ago. Reconstruction of the (2011) in the city centre was inspired by ambitious goal of returning the public space to the people. In order to spread the pedestrian zone, cars were removed from the surface to the newly constructed underground garage. Public underground car-park development presents a successful contemporary case of archaeological heritage integration into a modern urban structure. What would otherwise be an obscure underground passage has now become a museum with the in-situ remains of the original Roman road and a virtual museum interpretation of the life on it. Last but not least, the site visit will enable an insight into the findings from ancient Emona that where just recently discovered while sustainable transforming the main avenue Ljubljana, Congress Square – in 2015 - Slovenska street. © Arhiv Ljubljana, N. The social evening will be organised in a barn - Orehov gaj a rural site just 15 minutes from the city centre by bus (transportation provided). While having dinner in a very relaxed atmosphere, you will be invited to actively participate to activities, performed in larger or smaller groups.
