Arts Midwest Invests $64,175 in North Dakota For more than 25 years, Arts Midwest has been a strong partner with the North Dakota Council on the Arts. Together, we have provided enriching cultural opportunities to North Dakota artists, arts organizations, and audiences—fostering and sustaining vibrant, diverse communities throughout the state. Economically, we serve to leverage North Dakota public funds to generate more private investment while providing broad public access to arts and cultural activities. In FY13, Arts Midwest is reporting a 430% return on investment to the state of North Dakota for services in the 2012–2013 programming cycle. Through our performing and visual arts and leadership development programs, we have leveraged $14,912 in state dues to provide $64,175 in services. Service at a Glance ■ Arts Midwest Touring Fund: awarded $14,175 to eight North Dakota performing arts organizations ■ Arts Midwest World Fest: $50,000 in services per year for two years of artist residencies in Devils Lake ■ Arts Midwest Conference: provided business, learning, and networking opportunities to three individuals from three North Dakota organizations in 2012 ■ The Sum of Many Parts: featuring the work of North Dakota quiltmakers Patricia Renault Stuen and Eldeen Geist in an exhibition touring across China ■ Leadership: continued professional development and networking opportunities for state arts agency staff and leaders Arts Midwest Touring Fund Arts Midwest Touring Fund encourages performing arts touring by providing financial support to arts presenting organizations in the Midwest. Arts Midwest Touring Fund provides fee support up to $4,000 to performing arts organizations to bring dance, theater, and music to audiences across Arts Midwest’s region. Each engagement includes in-depth educational activities and public performances, and aims to reach underserved audiences. Through the FY13 Arts Midwest Touring Fund cycle (2012–2013 performance season), Arts Midwest awarded $14,175 to eight performing arts organizations in North Dakota. These activities included seven public performances and 29 community and educational events. Arts Midwest World Fest’s mission is to instill appreciation for diversity and acceptance of other cultures. Over a two-year cycle, four global musical ensembles conduct week-long residencies in Midwestern communities. “[The Yamma Ensemble] Residencies include public concerts, K-12 school workshops, and community got the kids involved and outreach activities such as family and senior citizen workshops and master talking. Hatten Lake Region Arts Council The 2011–2013 Arts Midwest World Fest cycle featured Yamma Ensemble (Israel), Tarim: Uygur Song and Dance (People’s Republic of China), Wust el Balad (Egypt), and Cudamani (Indonesia). The fall 2011 tour featured Wust el Balad. During their week-long stay in Devils Lake, the artists conducted 10 educational and performance events that reached more than 2,315 residents, including more than 1,850 youth. The only meeting of its kind in the Midwest, our Conference attracts top presenters from across the United States and around the world. The goals of the Arts Midwest Conference are to connect arts administrators, foster and sustain the dynamic performing arts industry, and promote the vibrant local arts scene in the Conference city.
