Arts Midwest Invests $308,721 in Illinois For more than 25 years, Arts Midwest has been a strong partner with the Illinois Arts Council. Together, we have provided enriching culture opportunities to Illinois artists, arts organizations, and audiences—fostering and sustaining vibrant, diverse communities throughout Illinois. Economically, we serve to leverage Illinois public funds to generate more private investment while providing broad public access to arts and cultural activities. In FY13, Arts Midwest is reporting a 466% return on investment to the state of Illinois for services in the 2012– 2013 programming cycle. Through our performing, visual, and literary arts and leadership development programs, we have leveraged $66,200 in state dues to provide $308,721 in services. Service at a Glance ■ Arts Midwest Touring Fund: awarded $62,821 to 24 performing arts organizations, and supported the touring of 17 Illinois ensembles, who earned $195,900 for their work ■ Arts Midwest World Fest: $50,000 in services per year for two years of artist residencies in Charleston ■ Arts Midwest Conference: provided business, learning, and networking opportunities to 101 individuals from 63 Illinois organizations in 2012 ■ The Big Read: supported four innovative reading engagements ■ The Sum of Many Parts: featuring the work of Illinois quiltmaker Edna J. Patterson-Petty in an exhibition touring across China ■ Leadership: continued professional development and networking opportunities for state arts agency staff and leaders Arts Midwest Touring Fund Arts Midwest Touring Fund encourages performing arts touring by providing financial support to arts presenting organizations in the Midwest. Arts Midwest Touring Fund provides fee support up to $4,000 to performing arts organizations to bring dance, theater, and music to audiences across Arts Midwest’s region. Each engagement includes in-depth educational activities and public performances, and aims to reach underserved audiences. Through the FY13 Arts Midwest Touring Fund cycle (2012–2013 performance season), Arts Midwest awarded $62,821 to 24 performing arts organizations in Illinois. These activities included 76 public performances and 103 community and educational events. During their week-long residency in Charleston, the artists conducted 10 educational and performance events and reached more than 2,536 residents, including more than 1,680 youth.
