How to get the most out of your ticket

• This smart version of the Getting About ticket is offered as a handy alternative to the existing paper version. • There is no charge for the smartcard provided at least one day’s bus travel is added at the time of collection. More than one day’s worth of travel may be added to the card so it is topped up for future use. The card, once obtained, can have travel topped up on the bus. However, you are unable to get your initial card on the bus. Unfortunately it is not possible to refund any unused travel loaded on to a card so please keep it safe. • The card can be used within the area covered, on Yellow Buses, morebus, Damory, Route One and First Bus. The ticket is not valid on night bus services and cannot be used on special one-off services (e.g. Park and Ride for special events). The Getting About area covers most of Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch and is detailed on the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Area Bus Map. Please note that the ticket is not valid for travel to surrounding locations outside of the scheme area (e.g. , Lymington, Ringwood, Salisbury, Swanage and Wimborne). From April 2017 the ticket is valid to/from Bournemouth International Airport. • When first used the card needs to be placed on the ticket machine of the first bus that you use – it may take a few seconds to validate. For journeys later in the same day continue to place the card on the ticket machine of the buses. If you intend to use the ticket on First buses the ticket needs to be shown to the driver with the receipt issued when the ticket was first purchased. It is recommended that you keep the receipt in any case. Top up on bus is not currently available on First buses. • The card is initially available as an Adult and Child version. The child card is for a young person to 15 or up to 18 years with proof of age. The group version of the Getting About ticket is not available at this stage as a smartcard. • The existing paper version of the Getting About ticket, available from the driver of the initial bus used, will continue to be available but at a higher price. The cost is Adult: £5.80; Young Person: £3.60; and Group (up to two adults and two young people): £14. • The facility on the card is for a future enhancement of the card which is not yet available. • Getting About is a partnership between Bournemouth Borough Council, Borough of Poole, County Council, Yellow Buses and morebus. The smartcard application has been developed through South West Smartcard Applications Ltd (SWSAL). SWSAL is a partnership of bus operators and local authorities working together in South West . • Please see bournemouth.gov.uk/gettingabout for more information and news on updates to the smartcard.
