The Tesco Hoover Wiltern Building This exhibition presents a revised design proposal for The Wiltern following on from the Planning Committee’s

22 10 decision to refuse the original application. The reason for storey storey refusal was:

The proposed development, by reason of its excessive height of the tower element, would represent an incongruous and visually intrusive form of development and would, in particular, be harmful to the setting of the adjacent Grade II* Hoover Building.

Since the planning decision, the team has held meetings with the planners at Ealing and consultations with key residents whose feedback have been incorporated into the development of the scheme.

This exhibition sets out details of the revised scheme which is lower in height than the original application. The reduction in height means that the revised scheme would no longer be visible from the viewpoint of the pavement south of the

The Hoover Building The site is to the rear of the iconic Hoover Building. Together with former Hoover factory and Canteen building, now the Nawaab restaurant, it creates a rich Art Deco context towards the A40. However, to the rear the petrol station at the end of the car park does not provide the same qualities. It is important for the proposal to reflect the qualities of the heritage buildings and contribute positively to the setting.

principles roof top amenity • preserve the concept as per the former planning 15 10 application proposal - linear and tall elements; storey storey • ensure the taller element is not visible both from the Hoover Building main gates and pavement to the south of the A40; • footprint to not extend any further to the east than the original application; • height of the lower element to not exceed 10 storeys, including its set back, to be consistent with the original application; • opportunity for the building to expand marginally towards the west to activate the pathway; • as the taller element is no longer visible from the south of the A40, opportunity for the axial alignment to be reconsidered.
