The students and staff of Thornaby Academy were delighted to move into the newly remodelled sections of the building shortly before the Christmas holidays. The completed Hubs for Create, Innovate and Discover constitute the first major phase in the overall schedule, which will be finalised in June 2013. The new areas include science labs, engineering and CadCam workshops, state-of-the-art ICT resources in classrooms and incredible studios for art, music and drama. When the project is complete, the Learning Hubs will be connected by an internal 'street' which will provide social, performance and additional learning space for the students. A local supermarket is at the forefront of charity fundraising for the community. Last year, Asda, Thornaby, raised an amazing £25,225 for local charities. This remarkable amount was achieved by working closely with, and in support of, the Army Cadets, the Salvation Army, the Air Ambulance, Tickled Pink - Breast Cancer Awareness, TFM Radio's Christmas Appeal, Research Lymphoma, Leukaemia, Help for Heroes and Abi's Love.
