Ettrickshaws Lodge Ettrickbridge, Selkirkshire Knightfrank.Co.Uk Ettrickshaws Lodge Ettrickbridge, Selkirkshire KnightFrank.co.uk Ettrickshaws Lodge Ettrickbridge, Selkirkshire Ettrickbridge 1 mile, Selkirk 7½ miles, Galashiels 13 miles, Edinburgh 49 miles (Distances approximate) Former Victorian hunting lodge in a beautiful setting Accommodation and amenities 5 reception rooms N 5 main bedrooms (all ensuite) N kitchen/breakfast room N office Self contained second floor apartment with 3 bedrooms (1 ensuite), dining/kitchen area, bathroom. Various domestic offices Outbuildings N mature garden N paddock Good business potential In all about 6.25 acres Situation N Ettrickshaws Lodge is situated in a rural and unspoilt part of the Ettrick Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the Scottish Borders, approximately 1 mile south of Ettrickbridge. The house lies on the south side of the Ettrick Water and, despite its rural setting, is within easy reach of the county town of Selkirk (about 7½ miles) and is also within commuting distance of Edinburgh and its international airport which lies approximately 49 miles to the north east. Ettrickbridge has a primary school and a local pub. A wider range of facilities are available in Selkirk, including its well regarded high school. N The Scottish Borders are famous for their beauty. Ettrickshaws Lodge is an ideal base for those who enjoy walking, cycling and riding. For the golfer there are any number of golf courses to choose from, the nearest being on the south east outskirts of Selkirk. The town also has its own rugby and cricket clubs but is perhaps most famous for its strong equestrian tradition and The Common Riding. Ettrickshaws Lodge lies within the Duke of Buccleuch’s hunt country. Exciting salmon and trout fishing is available on the Ettrick Water and there is very good game shooting for grouse and pheasant available locally. Directions From the north, on reaching the outskirts of Selkirk, take the first turning on the right. Follow this road for approximately 1¼ miles until the T junction. Turn left here and then take the first turning on the right onto the B7009, signed for Ettrickbridge. Continue on this road for approximately 6 miles, passing through the village of Ettrickbridge and after approximately 1 mile the drive to Ettrickshaws Lodge will be seen on the left. Cross the bridge and follow the drive up to the house. Description Ettrickshaws Lodge is a magnificent, late Victorian house occupying a sheltered position over looking the Ettrick Water. The house, thought to date from the late 19 th century, has well proportioned, accommodation on three floors. Not long after the Second World War Ettrickshaws Lodge started to trade as a hotel and continued to do so until 2006 when the present owners returned it to a private house, following a major refurbishment scheme which allowed them to retain and enhance many original features that give it such character and charm. The house is of brick construction, part rendered, part harled with red sandstone mullions and detailing. By virtue of its open aspect it benefits from a wonderfully light and bright atmosphere therefore enabling it to be used either as a private house or as a small country house hotel/bed and breakfast business. With the self contained apartment on the second floor there is great scope to let out the 5 ensuite bedrooms on the first floor and the expansive reception rooms on the ground floor. (See floor plans for room layout and dimensions) Gardens and Grounds Ettrickshaws Lodge is approached over a shared drive with a private entrance into Ettrickshaws Lodge with plenty of parking and turning space at the front door. The house is set within superb gardens and grounds of approximately 6 acres. To the rear of the house there is a wonderful backdrop of mixed woodland with mature rhododendrons and shrubs. These give a wonderful array of colour in the spring. The silver birch, Scots pine, beech and copper beech all provide shelter and a mature setting. To the side of the house there is a large lawn and a patio leading to the terrace which over looks the paddock, characterised by the 3 lime trees. To the east of the house there is a range of redundant outbuildings. Services (whether actual physical entry is taken or not) until paid at a Mains electricity. Private water supply and drainage. KEY NOTES KIRKHOPE, ETTRICK & YARROW PARISH MAGAZINE April 2021 First words from Rev Margaret Steele Dear Friends God loved the world so much that He gave His Only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 I wonder when these words first meant something to you? We come into this Easter time wondering what the future has in store for us as individuals and as churches as we begin the process of un-locking down! Things change yet God’s love remains constant. Karl Barth the great theologian, when asked what the most important message of the Bible was, quoted a hymn we all know from childhood – Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so. In the midst of all the changes let us remember this truth – true for all people everywhere for all time. This Easter has seen our church buildings closed, yet our churches are alive with worship and our witness as we work together in our communities to help those in need. God’s church without walls is alive and well! I am very pleased to tell you the results of the vote on whether or not E&Y, Ashkirk and Selkirk should form a new linkage of churches. Overall votes: FOR linking 314, AGAINST 7, with 2 spoilt votes. (turnout was 97.8% of the voter roll) Ashkirk: for 27, against 1 (turnout 80%) Ettrick and Yarrow: for 87, against 3 (turnout 62.5%) Selkirk: for 200, against 3 with 2 invalid votes. (turn out 64.3%) The vote for linking Ettrick & Yarrow with Ashkirk and Selkirk was therefore overwhelmingly positive.

  • KEYNOTES April 2020
KEY NOTES KIRKHOPE, ETTRICK & YARROW PARISH MAGAZINE April 2020 Message from Rev Elspeth Harley, Interim Moderator Dear Friends This year we will all be celebrating Easter at home, perhaps on our own. That will feel very strange. Easter is usually a busy time for me but a good time, culminating in a relaxed and happy service on Easter Day. I love the Maundy Thursday service when we remember Jesus’s Last Supper. I like to celebrate it by sitting having supper and finish taking communion round the table. The service on Good Friday is more sombre, remembering Jesus’s death on the cross. Imagine walking into arrest, torture and death knowing you could avoid it. But Jesus also knew none of that would defeat him, he was stronger than any evil thing that men could do to him. His strength came from knowing he would not die. And though his resurrection is as much of a mystery to me as it is to you, I know that Jesus is alive in the lives of millions of people all over the world today. And his Spirit within us and among us is a force for good which continues to defeat evil. Goodness is stronger than evil. Love is stronger than hate. Light is stronger than darkness. Life is stronger than death. So have faith that we will overcome the Covid19 virus, and I pray that you will all stay safe and strong. And now it’s time to say goodbye! And a huge thank you to all the people who have made my time at Ettrick and Yarrow so enjoyable and fulfilling.

John Muir Trust - The Trust fully supports the eight Support noted Support noted SLAs proposed within the consultation document, all of which are high quality landscapes deserving effective care and protection. The Three Brethern are some of the finest wild land in the south of Scotland. The Borders is fortunate to have such a precious natural asset, valuable in its own right, vital for eco-services, carbon sequestration and biodiversity, but equally valuable to the visitor economy. The inclusion in the proposed SLAs of the middle stretches of the Tweed between Peebles and Kelso and the landscapes between and including the lower Teviot and Jed and their 1 tributaries is also very welcome. These landscapes, too, are of great importance as key elements in how people see and experience the Borders - …it is now widely recognised that a patchwork of relatively small but protected areas is ineffectual, leading to a steady deterioration in the quality of these isolated areas, despite being designated…the Trust commends the draft SPG for recognising this requirement, and proposing a series of inter-connected candidate SLAs as a result. Philip and Finoula - Scottish Borders Council is to be Support noted Support noted Kerr commended for carrying out the Review of Landscape Designations to put the protection of the best of our scenic assets onto a more defensible basis, and for proposing new areas for designations.
