  • PRESS RELEASE 29/02/2016 Delta Light and Arik Levy Open a New Chapter in Lighting History Outdoor Light “Butler”, a New Pers
PRESS RELEASE 29/02/2016 Delta Light and Arik Levy open a new chapter in lighting history Outdoor light “Butler”, a new perspective on light Specialists in architectural lighting, West Flanders-based Delta Light entrusted designer Arik Levy with the creation of its new “Butler” collection, a surprising range of exterior and interior luminaires. Delta Light surprises Until now, Delta Light’s products have primarily been designed by its 30-strong internal R&D team, led by the company’s founder, Paul Ameloot. This year, however, the company has broken new ground by joining forces with the designer Arik Levy, who has dreamt up a new exterior collection, “Butler”, to complement the brand’s range. Butler is Delta Light’s flagship for the exploration of previously unchartered territory. Different from the typical Delta Light design code, Arik came up with a reinterpretation of the lampshade archetype. Suited for both residential and commercial projects, designed to upgrade any patio, garden or walkway. Courtesy of its simple yet highly evocative shape, the Butler brings an interior touch into your outside space. It’s simultaneously reassuring, elegant and feminine, with its slender base and a pleated shade reminiscent of traditional silk or paper models. But have no fear: this apparent fragility conceals real strength and an impressive lighting capacity. “I’m not fragile: I’m delicate, like you” At first sight, the Butler appears to be made of aluminium like most outdoor lights, but when you touch the shade, it’s immediately clear that such finesse and detail could not be created using metal.

  • PRESS RELEASE HONG KONG | JANUARY 28 | 2016 Encounters: Presenting 16 Ambitious and Large-Scale Projects by Artists from Across
PRESS RELEASE HONG KONG | JANUARY 28 | 2016 Encounters: Presenting 16 ambitious and large-scale projects by artists from across Asia and beyond Alexie Glass-Kantor, Executive Director of Artspace in Sydney returns to curate the Encounters sector of Art Basel in Hong Kong for the second time, presenting 16 artworks by artists from 12 countries and territories: Australia, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Mainland China, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. The sector is a unique platform that transcends the traditional art fair stand, presenting large-scale sculptural installations and will feature work by Brook Andrew, Charles Avery, Hans Berg and Nathalie Djurberg, Roberto Chabet, Chen Zhen, Isa Genzken, Kyungah Ham, Arik Levy, Peter Liversidge, Richard Maloy, Tintin Wulia, Tromarama, Keiji Uematsu, Lawrence Weiner, Pae White and Zhang Ding. For her second curation of the sector, Alexie Glass-Kantor explores the nature of an ‘encounter’ itself, curating an edition that aims to inspire both awe and wonder in an audience that will be required to interact with and participate in the immersive environment of many of the works on show. The number of exhibits has been reduced to 16 so artists and their galleries can be more ambitious in their presentations. This year’s edition will include five site-specific installations and six artworks that will be premiered at Encounters, including works by Brook Andrew, Isa Genzken, Arik Levy, Richard Maloy, Lawrence Weiner, Tintin Wulia and Zhang Ding. ‘I’m delighted that this year, close collaborations with the participants have resulted in a number of works that will be premiering at Art Basel, as well as site-specific works that have been created as a direct response to exploring what an ‘encounter’ is or could become,’ says Alexie Glass-Kantor, Curator Encounters.

  • Arik Levy: Intimate Formations
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2015 PRESENTS ARIK LEVY: INTIMATE FORMATIONS FIRST MAJOR WEST COAST SOLO EXHIBITION FIRST EXHIBITION IN PLEASE DO NOT ENTER’S NEW LOS ANGELES GALLERY SPACE MAY 29–JULY 11, 2015 OPENING PREVIEW THURSDAY, MAY 28, 2015, 6PM–8:30PM PLEASE DO NOT ENTER, 549 S. OLIVE STREET, LOS ANGELES, CA 90013 Los Angeles – Please Do Not Enter announced today that it will present Intimate Formations, the first West coast solo exhibition for multidisciplinary artist and designer Arik Levy. This exhibition is the first Los Angeles presentation of the artist’s work since a 2010 project at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, and will be the first major exhibition held at Please Do Not Enter’s new gallery space and store in Downtown Los Angeles. Israeli born and Paris based, Levy is internationally renowned for both his boundary bending contemporary art practice and his innovative work in industrial design. His works explore the intersection of science, nature, social philosophy and human poetics, seeking to establish visual connections between these disparate fields of knowledge and meaning. Levy’s process is an indefatigable excavation; a philosophical search for an impossible social and scientific formula to fuse contiguous realities. Through a formal and sensory vocabulary, visually reinforced by the artist through sequence, pattern and repetition, Levy stages experiential encounters with objects and space to engage his viewer emotionally and intellectually. The exhibition Intimate formations will feature twenty-five artworks, including free standing three-dimensional works, large-scale sculptures, wall mounted pieces, neon sculptures and paintings; a prolific collection that attests to Levy’s ambitious and tireless creative impulse.

Our aim since the museum opened in 1998 has been to constitute a contemporary collection out of these ‘encounters’, that is, to work on a long-term basis with Jewish and non-Jewish artists, always in a spirit of open-mindedness, to create resonances with the objects and themes in the permanent collection. Christian Boltanski inaugurated this programme with Les Habitants de l’hôtel de Saint-Aignan en 1939, a fragile monument vertically traversing the museum’s 20th-century wing. Jean-Pierre Bertrand, Arik Levy and Michel Nedjar were invited to work on the festivals of the Jewish calendar, whose themes have nurtured their work in often surprising ways. The relationship to the book, the written word and language has almost naturally been the framework for many of our commissions and acquisitions. Micha Ullman created five Sand Books for the museum collection, and Serge Lask and Judith Bartolani contributed works associating memory and the compulsive practice of writing.

  • We Are Pleased to Announce Black Dog Publishing's Spring 2015
Hello We are pleased to announce Black Dog Publishing’s Spring 2015 catalogue, including some of our most exciting new titles, in addition to our longstanding bestsellers and superb backlist. We start with the announcement of one of our most anticipated new titles: Degas’ Method. This lavishly illustrated retrospective of the acclaimed Impressionist era French artist covers the synergy of Degas’ artistic practice, from painting to pastel, and from monotype to sculpture. The book, which is to be released in both English and Danish editions, uses new technology—including x-rays and high-detail close-ups—to uncover the techniques Degas used to create his works. Following this, we are pleased to say that Art and Text, one of our most successful titles to date, is to be released in its second edition in paperback. Featuring the work of Andy Warhol and René Magritte, amongst many others, Art and Text is one of few titles to explore the myriad ways in which artists have employed text as a contemporary medium. In addition, we announce the highly anticipated release of the first comprehensively illustrated monograph of Californian artist Brian Calvin. October will see the release of the eagerly awaited publication, The Beaver Hall Group. The book begins by introducing the famed Montreal-based group of Canadian painters, using this as a starting point to discuss their relationship with modernity in Canada. We are equally pleased to announce the release of See Yourself X, the second volume in Madeline Schwartzman’s enquiry into human perception and sensory apparatus, which follows the successful and thought provoking first instalment, See Yourself Sensing.
