Arrival Details The group welcome meeting with you guide and other travellers is held around 13:00 on the board on Day 1 of your tour, unless otherwise notified. For the Dubrovnik to Split tour, the boat will remain in Dubrovnik port on the first night. Meeting Point The meeting point is your boat, “M/S Lav or M/S IKA” at Split Harbour. Meet your tour leader and group at 1:00pm at Split harbour. We will enjoy our first lunch on board together, before we set sail in the tranquil waters of the Adriatic Sea. There are plenty of stops for swimming on the way to Omis, a small port located at the mouth of the Cetina River and surrounded by huge gorges. Historically, Omis was home to the fearful pirates whose fast boats were used to attack trade ships. After a brief orientation walk you have the afternoon free to lie on the beach, take part in water sports like parasailing and jet skiing, go on an optional zipline adventure or just enjoy the many cafes, bars and restaurants that line the 1.5km beach. Hvar is home to spectacular beaches, pumping nightlife and draws numerous celebrities. We will then continue to Korcula town, the birthplace of Marco Polo. Korcula is graced with indented coves, rolling hills and a walled old town that resembles a mini Dubrovnik. The salt-water lakes were formed about 10 000 years ago and were originally freshwater lakes until the Benedictine Monks dug out a channel to sea. You can still find their medieval monastery on the island of St. Mary in the middle of Veliko Jezero (Big Lake). Spend the afternoon visiting the lakes, go swimming, kayaking, or cycling around the island. Of course, no sailing trip will be complete without dressing like a pirate so tonight we will have our on-board ‘Pirate Party’ with a delicious BBQ and traditional Croatian cuisine. Don’t worry you’ve got ample time to relax and go for a swim before we sail to Omis, which has rich and turbulent history of pirates. Reid Sheffield Hallam University Abstract This case note analyses the impact and significance of the European Court of Justice decision in Breyer. The European Court of Justice has expanded the definition of personal data to include dynamic IP addresses. The judgment improves the privacy situation of internet users across the European Union. The facts of Breyer1 Patrick Breyer is a German politician and activist who belongs to the Pirate Party. The Pirate Party was originally set up in Sweden in 2006, as a single issue political party, committed to the modernisation of copyright law in Sweden, following the crackdown on The Pirate Bay peer-to-peer network. After limited success in Sweden, sister parties sprung up across Europe, in order to capitalise on the notoriety of The Pirate Bay. In order to broaden their appeal, the European Pirate Parties set out common themes of campaigning interest, in particular, on issues surrounding the internet, such as open access to information, freedom of expression and privacy. As a technophile and politician committed to internet freedoms, Patrick Breyer vociferously objected to various Federal German government websites retaining details of his dynamic Internet Protocol (IP) address after he had completed browsing. Internet Protocol (IP) addresses are the essential backbone of the internet. Internet protocols are the method by which interconnected computers and devices communicate, share and transfer data between themselves. An IP address consists of either four pairs of numbers (version 4)2 separated by three colons or eight pairs of numbers separated by six colons (version 6).3 The US organisation ICANN4, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbering, is tasked with overseeing the interconnectivity and compatibility required for the continued successful operation of the internet infrastructure.

AN ROMAN PERIOD SHIPWRECK WITH A CARGO OF AMPHORAE ROMaN PeRIOD ShIPWRecK IN The ČaVLIN ShaLLOWS There are several hundred Roman pe- riod shipwrecks in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, the majority of which are devastated, but about a dozen of which have survived the ravages of time and unethical looters. They have been preserved intact, or with only minor damage, which offers underwater archaeologists an oppor- tunity for complete research. The very large number of Roman ship- wrecks is not unexpected, but speaks rather of the intensity of trade and importance of navigation on the eastern side of the Adriatic Sea, and of the dangers our sea hides. Roman period shipwrecks can be dated either by the type of cargo they carried or by some further analysis (the age of the wood, for example), and the datings range from the 4th century BC to the 6th century. The cargos of these ships were varied: from fine pot- tery, vessels and plates, stone construction elements and brick to the most frequent cargo – amphorae. The amphora was used as packag- ing from the period of the Greece colonisation to the late Roman and the Byzantine supremacy. There are remains of shipwrecks with cargos of amphorae that can be researched on the seabed, covered by Archaeological underwater excavation with the aid of a water dredge protective iron cages, and there are those that, as per documentation, need to be raised to the surface and presented on land.

    University of Sopron Roth Gyula Doctoral School of Forestry and Wildlife Management Sciences Ph.D. thesis Herpetofaunistic diversity of the Cres-Lošinj Archipelago (Croatian Adriatic) Tamás Tóth Sopron 2018 Roth Gyula Doctoral School of Forestry and Wildlife Management Sciences Nature Conservation Program Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Faragó Sándor Dr. Gál János Introduction In recent years the Croatian islands, especially those of the Cres-Lošinj Archipelago became the focus of research of herpetologists. However, in spite of a long interest encompassing more than a hundred years, numerous gaps remain in our herpetological knowledge. For this reason, the author wished to contribute to a better understanding by performing studies outlined below. Aims The first task was to map the distribution of amphibians and reptiles inhabiting the archipelago as data were lacking for several of the smaller islands and also the fauna of the bigger islands was insufficiently known. Subsequently, the faunistic information derived from the scientific literature and field surveys conducted by the author as well as available geological and paleogeological data were compared and analysed from a zoogeographic point of view. The author wished to identify regions of the islands boasting the greatest herpetofaunal diversity by creating dot maps based on collecting localities. To answer the question which snake species and which individuals are going to be a victim of the traffic snake roadkill and literature survey were used. The author also identified where are the areas where the most snakes are hit by a vehicle on Cres. By gathering road-killed snakes and comparing their locality data with published occurrences the author seeked to identify species most vulnerable to vehicular traffic and road sections posing the greatest threat to snakes on Cres Island.
